I'm not a DIY bass guru by anymeans but I know there is help out there for people like me that wanna be. So here goes. The one piece of equipment I am missing from my home theater set up is a subwoofer; and it is greatly noted when watching movies listning to music at home. I currently have two 15" Rockford Fosgate T115D4 subwoofers in my SUV that I would like to use in the home environment. A custom box will be made for there use in the home. I have done alittle research on how to power them as the current power source a Rockford Fosgate Power 10001Bd amp will not work in the home so I came accross Crown amps. Which from what I've read and from the DJ I know back home have a good rep and produce "clean" power like the Rockford Amps. Being stationed in Hawaii for the Army the shipping costs for subwoofers can get expensive especially when some of them start weighing over 50lbs. With a local Crown Amp rep here it creates a zero cost shipping factor which is nice. The Rockford subs can handle 600 Watts RMS and 1200 peak. The rep stated that an "over-head" is recommended for such applications. Ok no big deal its I think 150$ price difference. What I want to make sure is the I am matching the correct power flow Ohms/watts and that stuff I'm no electrician so I get lost in the sauce when it comes to that. The Rockford subs are DUAL 4 ohm voice coil and can be wired in an arrary of ways to make an optimal ohmage. Any help will be appreciated on this as again I'm lost in the sauce the over head makes sense to me, and I can see the output for the amp and what the subs can handle but would like a second opnion as I'm second geussing myself here. Here are the links for the two products in question

should be fine, how are you thinking of of implementing them? One XTI1000 in bridged mono per woofer would be probably be optimal. Thing is, those those crowns get pretty hot, not something you want to mount inside the woofer box. Most of those pro-amps use fans to keep them cool, so they need airflow.

What ever you do your final connection to your amp should be 4 ohms or greater AND NOT 2 ohms. No amp is going to drive 2 ohms very long!

Example, wire the dual VCs in parallel and then in series with the second 12" sub, end results is 4 ohms. You can drive them together but you are going to need a BETTER amp then the XTi1000. Maybe the Xti4000 might be close or other high Watt pro amps. IMO, the EP2500 is a DIY standard and in bridged mode will have no problem giving 2000W into 4 ohms. Heck of a lot cheaper then the Crown amps to, although I have no idea about availability or costs in Hawaii.

If you are not aware there is a DIY speaker/sub forum on this site and lots of expert advice there. Im sure they will also explain why those car subs may not be optimal in a house.

+1 on penngray's post, mostly...

You should wire the speakers to create a net load of 4-ohms, whether you wire the VC's in series and then parallel the subs, or vice versa.

You'll want an amp that can handle 150% to 200% of your subs' combined RMS power requirements. The XTi1000 will be a little short on power -- on paper, the XTi2000 should handle the powers -- the 4000 might be a little overkill. I have heard, however, that the XTi's tend to have problems driving lower frequencies... you might be happier with something from QSC's PLX or RMX lines....

keep in mind sub enclosures tend to be smaller for vehicles, not just because of space considerations but because of the additional low frequency boost you get with long wavelengths in a small "room". So for home use your box may be considerably larger.
