View Full Version : Did I do major damage to my subwoofer?

Hey guys,

Here is my issue:

I have been saving up for a while to by myself a new surround sound system for my pc. So finally, I had enough funds and purchased myself the Logitech Z-5500.

It came in the mail today and I began setting it up. Now as I kept setting up the speakers, something bad happened. When I reached down to connect a speaker in the back of the subwoofer, I pulled on the Xbox gigantic PSU. Here is a picture of it: http://modspace.com.au/shop/images/Power-Supply-AC-Adapter-for-Xbox-360.jpg

Thanks Microsoft for making a big and bulky device Microsoft!

So when I pulled on it, it fell below and nicked a piece of the subwoofer. It was somewhat loud when it hit it. Here is what it looks like: http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk310/S0lidSnake00/DSC02171.jpg

The PSU did not completely land on top of the sub it just nicked it and fell on the floor so I guess this is a good thing since the subwoofer didn't completely absorb the impact.

So after all of this work and money I saved, did the subwoofer suffer any damage? (sound wise) Call me paranoid but I am just about to go crazy if I do not get some input from you guys...Or is this something I should simply not worry about? Since subwoofers generally have a lot of open space inside except some wires and the bass driver itself, is it able to withstand some damage? Can the sound of the bass be changed or altered because of this? Is there anything I should be noticing in the sound of the bass that will tell me something is wrong?

I think I am just being paranoid but I have to ask since I waited so long for this investment.

Thanks guys!

If the PS didn't directly hit the driver you should be ok. It looks like cabinet damage only and it's doubtful the driver will be effected unless the impact was enough to jar something loose inside which is doubtful from a small PS.

It looks like cosmetic damage only and the driver shouldn't be effected unless it took a direct hit. Sucks to marr up a new item though. At least it looks minimal and not in a very visible spot.

No damage, relax.

I would be worried about the PSU though. That time I dropped an Acer power adaptor it went zzz, pop pop...for 3 days, finally died, and took out the whole motherboard of my Acer notebook and the PSU really had a burnt smell (probably power spike!). Luckily it was still under warranty, they ran out of motherboard to change and after 2 months 1-to-1 exchanged a brand new notebook. :D

I agree, it looks like that would only cause a little cosmetic damage. It sucks to get a ding in a brand new pice of gear, but it should sound and perform fine.

Wow, thankfully though this is for the xbox so its no where near the motherboard. And as for the PSU itself, I am sure it will be fine but I am so mad at it right now...I just want it to blow up!

Right after I figured out the PSU slammed onto the sub, I literally punched the damn thing for like 10 seconds...

Thanks everyone for their advice and support! I heard about the nice AVS community. :):D

Maybe you should put the PSU into "time out" for a while.:D
No playtime for a week.
Seriously though, it sucks to scar something new. Looks pretty minor and now you have that first ding out of the way.
