Ok if it storms bad enough to lose signal, My question is, if you have an AM21 hooked up to an antenna, would you still be able to watch those channels assuming you could still get reception on that? Weather can affect OTA some, but not usually all channels like Sat does.
Would be nice to see the weather channel or news still if your dish drops.
Also if you have an AM21 hooked up, do you get both the locals for that and the ones coming thru DTV?
Yes
Like he said. All answers are yes

Check your local NBC affiliate(s). It can't be long before "WeatherPlus Part Deux" shows up. ;)
I recently lost D* programming due to my dish being mis-aligned in a snow storm. Interestingly, this knocked out my OTA reception on the AM21 as well.

Weather channel as in most news channels have a digital weather map going 24/7 on locals if you didnt know...
That was what I was wondering, if the receiver goes out from Dish being knocked out, if the receiver is down or if you could still watch the locals from the antenna still. So got a couple yes you can and 1 no you cant....hoping the one guy was from the snow piling on his antenna or something??

I don't have an AM21 yet ... but since it is dependent upon guide info and channel mapping data from the satellite, I would suspect that it would work for a while (a few days perhaps) then quit once the host receiver runs out of guide data (or loses "authorization.")

Lost mine when my dish filled up with snow. I had thought that maintaining local reception even during loss of satellite signal was supposed to be one of the benefits of using an AM-21. :(

Thats what I was afraid of...so I would have to remove from AM21 during a storm and hook it up directly to TV....or go ahead and have it split to the TV already.
I have it direct to TV now as a backup and it works fine, but of coarse I cant TIVO anything this way so thats why I was wanting to add an AM21 to the mix. I was just hoping the receiver was smart enough to keep working for what it could still pickup and not totally go down. Oh well, maybe next time.

My AM-21 works fine during storms when my satellite quits working. Not sure what egnlsn's problem was.

My AM-21 works fine during storms when my satellite quits working.
Short term? Long term? Any related power outages or random reboots? :)
There's times when it should work fine ... others when it's probably going to (eventually) quit.

It's only ever happened short term. I've never had a long term problem with my satellite.
If there's ever a problem where my satellite is out long enough for the two weeks of guide data to run out I think the AM-21 is going to be the least of my worries.
