People who own JVC MOD camcorders, Panasonic MOD camcorders or Canon MOD camcorders encountered the issue with--- what to do with the MOD files? And they hold the same dream that the recorded .MOD file type can be converted to mpeg, avi, mkv, flv, mp4, wmv or whatever more common. However, most major video editing suites seem to unwillingly accept the MOD format.

Someone successfully made it simply by changing the extension from .mod to mpg, but for most people, they just failed only to find there is no audio after the extension is changed, or the changed one doesn’t allow you to import these files into Windows movie maker, not to mention upload some video to Youtube.com or Facebook. People use different operation system, windows xp, Vista or else. No one wants to say they just want to enjoy the .mod files on camcorder

Stop wasting your time and getting pissed off. There is a very simple program that convert .mod NOT ONLY to mpg but many others like avi, mkv, flv, mp4, wmv, rm, rmvd, mov, dv, mg2 and swf. iOrgsoft MOD converter is the one shoot all the trouble. This excellent mod conversion tool is not just a converter but also a video editing tool. From now on, with the iOrgsoft MOD converter you can enjoy your mod video on many media player, even on portable devices like blackberry, Gphone, PSP, Creative Zen,etc.

I've renamed extensions from Panasonic mod file to mpg and it kept the sound.

If you're concerned about permanently altering something (which it won't) then just right click/"copy" the file and "paste" it into a new folder.

Then right click the copy of the file and rename it to ".mpg". You can also rename the actual name "example.mpg".
If it doesn't work, just delete the copy of the file in the new folder. At least you've tried this harmless process.
