Hello,

I've seen many posts about streaming video from a Mac to a TV, but how about the opposite? Is there anything available that lets you watch cable tv on a Macbook?

I'd love to bring my Macbook into any room and watch tv on it, even a room without a cable box or cable lines.

I've seen EyeTV as a product and it looks like you can use it for this purpose, but it looks like you need to hook the cable line into the unit. This won't work if there is no cable line in the room.

Thanks for your help.

Right, your cable coax has to be directly connected to the typical EyeTV USB stick--which in turn is plugged into your Mac. But, that can be set up on another Mac in the house--and then wherever you happen to be with the MB you could play back those recordings over "n" wireless. Just like you'd stream, say, a ripped dvd that resides on another Mac volume to your MB.

Or, you could go with an HD Homerun, which plugs into your network over ethernet.

Is the MB your only Mac?

The HD Home Run will plug into your ethernet network and then you can stream TV to any Mac in the house, including wirelessly to you MacBook. However, the HD Home Run is limited to clear QAM from cable. That means that you will usually only get the major networks and PBS.

If you want to stream additional cable content, consider a Slingbox. The new Slingboxes can connect to a cable box and stream very high quality video around a house (and not so I quality around the world).

Great, thanks. It sounds like the Slingbox is the way to go. I'll look into it.
