i have a firefold 1x2 splitter that when connected directly to a source (ps3, apple tv) works flawlessly (i can have both displays on, or just one with no problem). when i connect the splitter to my receiver - an onkyo tx-sr706 - it doesn't work at all. i've tried connecting both at the same time, one at a time a variety of startup sequences and nothing.

i'm just wondering if there's something dumb that i'm overlooking.

A guess: The receiver may be working in "pass through" mode for the EDID. This tries to pass the info from the displays to the sources (inputs into your receiver - PS3, etc). This could confuse things royally. You may want to check in the receiver forum to see if anybody with your receiver has gotten a splitter to work.
