Any advice on which one of these players to buy for a 32 in. LCD? I know the Oppo is probably a better player PQ-wise, but with the screen size...

The Sony is discontinued. I picked up the display model with remote at Best Buy for $39 yesterday and it is a fantastic player, especially if you have a Sony Bravia LCD. It syncs with my Bravia for simple one button performance.

I have the Sony and it's a very nice player. I have a 46" Sony LCD and as fritz said the HDMI control is a very nice feature. No doubt the Oppo probably has a better picture, and I even toyed with the idea of a 980 myself, but I'm really satisfied with the Sony and it's feature set can't be beat. I've used many DVD players and many have died, but my Sonys keep going and going. Dang I should check BB to see if mine has any of those $39 specials. I'd swap out a few of my non upconverting Sonys.
