First off I'd like to say WOW! This is the site I've been looking for.

I have a DTV HR20 and a Winegard amplified antenna. I was wondering if yall could help me with this hookup. Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum, you basically need to attach your antenna to the proper input on the back of the HR20 then re-run the guided set up where it will let you select an OTA source and enter your local zip code.

The HR20 works differently then other ATSC tuners where it doesn't discover channels, it gets it's list from a database Directv keeps. Basically you'll see every ATSC digital OTA channel in your area show up in the guide regardless if you can receive them or not.

I'm sure you are familiar with the Winegard GS2000 amplified, So what I was wondering is, the plug it came with has a box on it and one side says to preamp and the other says to tv. do I run the end from the antenna into the one that says preamp and the other to my HR20? Then run setup. You can probally tell I'm real new to this.

Correct, it's a power inserter, the side marked pre-amp goes on the feed coming from the antenna.

You'll also want to go to somewhere like tvfool.com to get the information on which direction you should aim the antenna. Feel free to post your results for further help.

:)Got it! Thanks for the info. I'm getting 8 channels that are crystal clear. I live in a small town in La. of about 5000 and my market is about 80 miles away. (El Dorado Ark/Monroe La.) I'm tickled, now the knowledge searching and tinkering starts.:)
