I just changed the bulb on my calibrated three year old Sam HLS6187. I had to tame down the blue and green colors to get it fairly close. I plan to have it recalibrated, but I found an interesting phenominon. When I first turn the set on, it comes on fairly red for about 30 seconds. Then the blue increases almost suddenly, and the picture looks good. It almost appears like a three color front projection with the blue coming on later than the red & green. Will the set self-destruct in 100 hours? Is this a sign that the world will end?
Color wheel getting tired? 1+1=3? Everything was fine (or I didn't notice) before the change.
The color wheel itself isn't tired, but the set may be having trouble syncing the spokes on the wheel. If this is new, then I suspect that some dirt/dust got in just the wrong place. I have no clue if this is a sealed light-path, or not, so I can't advise whether it is a good idea to go back in there with a box of q-tips, a can of air and a lot of patience.
Check the RPTV forum to see if anyone who has this set has experienced anything similar. If you have in-home service warranty coverage, it is definitely worth calling a tech out. The scenarios that come to mind if it is not something simple like an optical sensor being blocked get fairly expensive fairly quickly out of warranty.

There can be a lot of different color variations as the bulb starts and is getting to operating color temperature. This should stabilize after 100-hours or so. My projector starts with the white projector logo looking a bit green then gradually transitions to white.

Gentlemen,
Thank you for the replies. Glen, is your projector DLP? I don't esxpect this behavior from a (supposedly) white light - single source.

Glen - I agree that there is a warm-up, but the suddenness the OP is reporting is what leads me to suspect something got into the light path during the bulb swap.
