Just burned and listened in my theater. Can't wait to get a soundtrack in some format. I'll try it in my wife's car tomorrow to see how it compares with Pink Floyd's DSOTM in surround.
Can you release a full length sample of classical performances that don't have copyright issues like "Ride of the Valkyries"?
I also like your samples in WMA Pro for playback on my Theater PC. I still have all your past samples.

Um, we have a new website up, all issues should be fixed (not sure why it happened!)

Hey, thanks. And congratulations!

Do you know if and when this technology is going to be available, on-the-fly, to us consumers? My understanding is that this is in the works.

Hey, thanks. And congratulations!

Do you know if and when this technology is going to be available, on-the-fly, to us consumers? My understanding is that this is in the works.

We're starting at the pro level. We'll be exhibiting at the National Association of Broadcasters show in Las Vegas next month along with a product manufacturer of broadcast equipment. Check out our website, and look for "Penteo/RT".

We're also making our own unit ready for live television (reality shows/sports) so that shows that are produced in facilities that don't have stereo capability will have decent 5.1 capability, as opposed to the synthesizers that many are using now. Many mixers of these events prefer to mix in stereo, so the Penteo 5.1 version solves all the issues; the mixer can work in stereo while the 5.1 listeners will hear separated-out parts that downmix back to stereo perfectly.

We plan on eventually doing a consumer version - but that's still down the line a bit.

We just spent a week-long series of meetings in Hollywood with business associates who are giving us more ideas -- so stay tuned!!!

Thanks for all your support!

I'm very happy to hear a consumer version is on the way (even if it's not in the immediate future). Count me in as very interested in such an application/device (particularly as it seems discrete MCH releases of anything outside of classical music and some jazz seems dead). I would LOVE to run my music through your system (the current DSP settings available to me vary from "ok for casual listening (DPLII and DTS Neo:6) to "yuck" (all the others--with music. Some of them are good for sports, though).

I do not know if you had previously posted a "more than 3-channel" demo, but I must tell you that I was much more impressed with this demo than the 3-channel one(s). Personally, I do not find the simple addition of a 3rd center channel to necessarily be an improvement. I would hope that any consumer version could be configured for 4.0.

BTW, how are you deriving the LFE channel, exactly? (No, I didn't check to see if this demo is 5.0.)

I play the music really loud in a cheap motel room with paper-thin walls and then record the thumping bass in the next room. :)

Seriously, it's just a low-pass filter of whatever has bass in it. Nothing is removed from the 5 mains.

Some people seem to be having some difficulty with ftp blocked on their end. You can also get the demo via http at

It's so large, though, http might take a few tries with http.

This sounded pretty cool. I certainly liked the Simon and Garfunkel opening track.

Presumably this was achieved from the stereo version. Could this technique also work from mono sources or would this tax the technology too much?

Just idly wondering...

Hey thanks. These were the tracks as they appear in Watchmen.
Mono all simply comes out in the center. Mono is, after all, mono.

I've not seen the movie yet.

I am asking (idly) because I was assuming to get multichannel sound from original two channel sources, you were doing clever stuff with filters etc. to create the other channels. This seemed to be the case with the first demo you had available.

Seeing the rather poor efforts to create stereo from original mono masters by putting the bass in one channel and treble in the other I was thinking with more sophisticated digital filter techniques you might be able to create a more realistic stereo version from a mono source.

Penteo doesn't use filters of any kind. It's based on what I call computational analysis of the left vs. right channels. Everything in Penteo is an extracted component based on panorama placement. Since mono has no panorama, mono remains mono.

What's Latin for that?

What form could we expect the consumer grade version to take? Is it’s own machine? Is it software that you run on your computer in which you make your own discs or would it be something like Pro Logic II that is just a mode that runs on your receiver?

Remains to be seen. What are your thoughts?
