Hey people,

I have an SA 8300HD with Optimum Online in NY.
Don't know the OS (Need a reminder of how to get that from the box)

My wife has been taping a lot of stuff over the past year and many of them are (or were) still saved on the box.
She noticed today that possible some stuff that was on there from last March is not there.

Now I'm not sure how the time stamps work internally but as you know the displsay only shows the Month and day.

My question is if we start to go over 1 full year will it erase/overwrite stuff from last year that's on the same date?

Has anyone witnessed this or anything similar?

The 8300HD DVRs that use the SARA OS will retain programs in excess of 1 year. I've got shows going on 2 years that playback fine.

Is this exclusive to SARA though?

Can someone remind me how to get my OS info?

Also my question isn't so much about retention but also overwrite.
Example:
Let's say i have stuff on there from 3/9 of last year. If I tape stuff today will it 'replace' the old 3/9 stuff. Does it get 'confused' about the dates because it does not display the year in the listing and overwrite the previous year?

Follow?To find your OS info, click on the SARA link in my signature and it is explained in the first post. Just because the year is not shown doesn't mean the DVR does not keep it. It needs to know what the oldest recording is in case someone uses "Turn ON Auto Erase" which erases your oldest recordings to make space for new ones. I know SARA has this option.

There is limited space on the recorded list page so this may be why the year is not displayed. Also, the channel the program was recorded on is not displayed for this reason.

With SARA, it is easy to delete a program by mistake. The problem is after you select erase and before you confirm erase there is a small window of time that a new program can start recording. This changes the list of recordings and can change the program to be erased by the DVR. Maybe, this is why some of the recordings are missing.
