Hi guys.

I've searched a lot about this question, but haven't seen a lot of people trying to do what I'm thinking about:

I was thinking I would build frames that would sort of look like beveled columns to the left and right of my screen - floor to ceiling - where the left and right speakers (and sub) are. Also one frame to cover the couple of feet underneath my screen (where the center channel speaker is).

My plan was to cover these frames with GOM FR701 (black), and pull it tight enough to make it look like a fabric column wall, unless you look really closely at it. I got some samples of FR701 from Fabricmate after doing some research here, but it looks like such a loose weave, I'm worried that it will be relatively see-through. I can paint the area behind the cloth black (or a dark color), but will it look like a denser weave once it's stretched on the frame? I don't want to buy all the material only to find out it doesn't look the way I imagine it. Anyone have any experience with what I'm trying?

Thanks!

I have GOM over framing on the false walls around my stage. The front wall is GOM over insulation and dry wall. In essence, you can't see through the fabric when you are in front of the screen. You can see through the GOM when you are in the space between the front wall and the false wall when the room lights are on. Basically, as long as you don't have lights behind the GOM it is opaque.

GOM FR701 around the screen, and on the columns and on the walls. Although my columns are MDF they could have been just frames. Paint the frames and the area behind a dark color.

I also used GOM 701 on a large panel below my screen... no issues seeing through it. I have black painted walls behind it and 'rosenut' colored speakers.

Prior to the screen going up:

Yep, as long as you do not have a light behind it you will not be able to see through it. I use it right up against unpainted MDF and you can not see anything but the black FR701 cloth.

Yes as others have said and shown, you can not see through it.

Beveled columns. Not mine, they're from Kirk's uptown paradiso.
