I have heard that generally, people do not buy minitape rewinders, that instead, they get a "cheap" camcorder for rewinding. Why?

It depends on the rewinder.

The ones to complain about rewinders are those who go out and spend $4.99 plus tax on one (you CAN get them that cheap). The tape breaks and/or stretches and they blame the rewinder. In fact a rewinder is just like anything else.... you get what you pay for. Meanwhile.... it's really tough to find a camcorder that sells for 4.99 plus tax so you always end up with a higher quality rewinder

Buy a rewinder of reasonable quality and you won't have any problems.
