there is no best we all have our favourites, i feal sony are the better built cams myself and my two hdv and avchd sr 12 all give very good pictures but i am sure the canon models also have good pq and canon consumer cams are known to have better auto focus.

It depends on what you want to pay, consumer cams that are very ggod in low light are few and far between but the new sony HDR-XR500/520s are reputed to be very good in low light.

good luck with the SR12 i see you have now bought let us know how you like it.

Thank you for your recommendation however I have bought a Sony HDR-SR10E

I will take a look at that Sony if mine turns out not to be good.

I bought the camera off ebay and he turned out to be a fraud so I am now on the look out again.
