I currently have a finished theater in my basement that is neither sound proof or have high enough ceiling. I am most likely going to add on to my main level for a dedicated theater. This is what I have always wanted and have grown alot as far as theater taste and knowledge.
My main question is what is a ideal theater size for 8-12 people. As far as height, length, width. Also should I build it with no windows. My house backs up to a pond and I have alot of windows in the rear of my house which this room will go and I thought it would be really awesome if I could have a large panaramic window at the back only and have a system that would lower the screen and acoustics in front of the window when I want to watch a movie. Otherwise I could listen to music or just talk with family and friends. My concern with adding a window is the sound transmission issue. I want to have as sound proof of a room that is reasonable. I plan to have 2x6 exterior walls with the spray foam and also insulation. Then to add isolation clips, double and maybe triple drywall on the walls that attach to the house, green glue, sound caulk, sound proof door and special HVAC. This is the time to decide everything I need.
I have always gotten excellent response from the forum and look forward to everyones comments and suggestions.
I am not a normal person when it comes to design so I want to think outside of the box like the window with a screen that comes down in front of it. I do not want an ordinary box that performs like a theater. I want a WOW factor that would impress home theater owners.:)
