Soon I'll be starting the construction of my basement and ultimately the home theater.
The plan:
Use a staggered wall in the home theater
Double drywall on both the ceiling and the walls
Question:
Isolation?
I need to soundproof my walls, mainly the ceiling, and stuff it with some form of isolation. I am looking at OC quietzone batts ( http://www.owenscorning.com/quietzone/products/products3.asp ) between the joists in the ceiling and between the walls.
I am trying to eliminate MOST (all probably would be impossible) noise from upstairs.
Have anybody used this type of insulation?
Are there any better alternatives?
Is the OC quietzone an overkill?
Is there a better yet cheeper solution?
Any input would be appreciated!
Ceiling height?
Ceiling isolation/construction was far more important in my basement build than wall treatment.. so the above question will be a deciding factor. IMO Standard R13/R19 fiberglass is the only insulation you need.

I am not much concerned with the wall treatment but only the ceiling for now.
The ceiling height will be 8'
I am reading around some more on the topic and seems like the quiet zone is an overkill.
Another question, did you use both R13 and R19 in your ceiling or just either one?

You'll want to at least consider using each of four elements in your room: http://www.soundproofingcompany.com/index.php?/library/articles/elements_of_room_construction

great article!
Rule #1, listen to Ted :) The guy helped me out a TON.. plus he should be your green glue supplier!
If you have 8', then go with what he said. Dbl Drywall and Green Glue. I useed r19 in the ceiling and cannot hear anythign above, and teen foot stomps do not affect me :)

Ted seems to know what's going on!
I didn't see green glue as an al alternative but instead stuffing my ceiling with insulation, until now.
Right now in my unfinished basement I could hear everything, including the dog walking upstairs. Thank you for all the help.
The suggestion to use green glue is IN ADDITION to putting loose insulation above the ceiling. Ideally, you should try to isolate the DD ceiling from the joists from the floor above.
