Anybody out there with Red & Black theaters. Would you do a big favor for me? Could you post a picture of the carpet you chose, to go with your red/black walls. A picture with the walls and carpet in it would be great. Im having a really hard time picking carpet to go with my red/black walls. Ive seen a few theaters on here already. But Im hoping more of you are out there with the same colors as me. I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Skid_68,
I think you may have just hit the motherload with my theater, its about as Red and Black as they can go. However, I used GOM fabric through out the theater walls since I acoustically treated the room, but nevertheless its REd/Black and with Dark Gray carpet. Here are a few pictures, the rest is in my construction thread which has a wealth of information and illustrative photos showing everything I did from Day one (Framing) til now(Fabric/Screenwall/carpetting). Please note that the room is not 100% finished, also the camera flash may make the carpet look light gray (almost purple-ish), but the actual color/style is a patterned medium/dark gray. I got the carpet at Lowe's last Fall , i dont remember the exact name, but I can get it for you if you like it, granted they still stock it.

Keep em comin guys. Really appreciate it. Ive been going crazy over the weekend looking at a million different carpet samples. We are having a really tough time deciding on the color for the carpet. We are leaning towards red, but have only found ONE sample out of hundreds that we actually like, and its $27 per/yard. Which is more than we want to spend. So we are looking at other red/black theaters to see what you guys chose. So are there any more red/black theaters that want to participate in our search. :) Thanks.

The carpet I chose is Mowhawk HighRise Retreat in Ebony Polish Color.

If you're looking for red, how about this?

This is what I'm doing in my red and black room, except in black (wife wanted the red, but I overruled :D). It's a very common choice here, made by both Shaw (as it turns out, it has changed names for the third time that I'm aware of...I first came to know it as something Statement, then found out it is sometimes available under its old name, Backstage...and now Shaw's website has it listed as Cross Street  http://www.shawfloors.com/carpetDetails/Queen/Cross_Street-Heart) and Lee (don't remember the name of the pattern with Lee). FWIW, my impression is that the Shaw costs a little less, and the Lee may be a slightly better carpet.

Mine is not really black but it looks like it. Mine is Ralph Lauren Morern Loft UL32 which is a really really dark blue. We are going with a solid black carpet.

I am also interested in this topic.

First; my thanks to everyone who has shared photos - some awesome examples that set the bar really high.

I can see that grey comes off as an excellent complimenting 3rd color (especially for carpets) . Anyone done a black and red theme with a brown. taupe, rust or cocoa color for carpets, ...?

I completely agree, I spent days with my wife going back and forth with different carpet samples and by far the dark gray we picked was the best color match, as its not intrusive to the existing flashy red/black walls.

Going all black on carpet meant that the we will be cleaning and vaccuuming the carpret on a regular basis and it would have made the room too gloomy for my taste (however I carpeted my stage to be black which works well with the black Fabric GOM screen wall and white screen fabric.

Also we thought of going all red, but if you have so much red on the wall, and then add red carpet it will just be overkill, I can see red carpet if you have all black/Gray or just plain dark walls like ARTTU's room, but red walls and red carpet would have be too much.

I can honestly say the dark gray blue-ish or even lighter grey carpet will be your safest bet.

Its funny with so many different shades of black in one room, I think it just gives the illusion the carpet is grey.

My carpet is really black on black. Picture the base color is a little lighter black than GOM fabric and the design is fidelio black. However it looks as if it is grey and black in the photos. It looks like that to an extent in real life aswell until I show people a swatch of the carpet they all think it is black on grey.

In my previous home we had red/black with gold accents. The carpet was kind of a light brown color. Unfortunately I don't have any pics from then, but it went together well.

With red and black you can use many many different colors to compliment. From the old color wheel, the direct compliment to red would be green. I don't know if I've seen anyone try to pull off a red theater with green carpet however... but it might be interesting....

Even black carpet tends to look gray when light shines on it... i think it's the reflective/translucent nature of the fibers perhaps.

I do agree with the previous poster who talked about maitnenance with all-black carpet. What you see in my previous pic is actually "frosted", that it black carpet with grey "frosted speckeles" in it... it helps to keep every single little speck from showing up. That having been said, it's still useful to own a handy-vac for quick touchoups between regular vacuumings...
