I am guessing that most find the front as the sweet spot?

I prefer the front row, but when with the Mrs. I'm in the back row.

Front is not necessarily the sweet spot. It depends on many factors, including where your first row starts, one's viewing preferences as well as where the surrounds are sitting, etc. Having said that, I prefer the front for 16:9 and the second for 2.35:1.

Back row for casual TV and working on the lap top. Better lighting.

Front row when I want to be emersed in a movie. Better sound in my set up but that varies by theater.

I like both front and back but sit in the middle back most of the time :)

Back row, but that's probably because I don't have a front row yet:p

Front row for Bluray, HDTV, and PS3... back row for regular DVD and Wii.

Front for Blu-ray. Rear for DVD, Xbox 360 and PS3 gaming. I'm using a Mits HC3000U 720p projector. Front row at about 9.5' -10' from 110" 16:9 screen can be overwhelming for gaming to me. DVD's don't look as good as Blu's so the more distance the better.

My middle row in the sweet spot, but alas, my wife and I usually sit up front. :)

My back row is a bar, so back row when eating or there are >4 people in the room. Fron row all the rest of the time. (Front row is ~10.5' from 110" diag 16:9 screen.)

I sit in the front row when I'm in the theater by myself, but when it's a family movie I'm in the back row with my wife, on the reclining sofa. The sound back there is not great, but it's a sweet setup, otherwise!

When planning/building I thought the 1st row would be the main/sweet spot, but after building the screen and testing subwoofer acoustics with REW (and by ear) the 2nd row middle 2 seats are the sweat spot(s).

Yes, in my case.

The center of the first row is just about in the center of the room and has the best acoustics. It's also positioned at the critical viewing distance from the screen so I'm getting the maximum resolution without seeing pixels.
