I am finally ready to give up trying to sell my house and just add a brand new wing to it. I want to incorporate a 20' x 30' home theatre. I have thought about getting Dennis Erskine or Rives Audio to design it but their costs are very high and I really want to use my own architect, who is brilliant. He also knows very little about home theatre.
Is there a better approach for me here? Could I perhaps buy some pre-made home theater plans and have my architect adapt them to my needs? It is new construction so I can easily take a good set of detailed plans and make them my own. Such plans would have to include such details as floating floor or ceilings, acoustical treatments, risers, etc.
Perhaps someone out here who is very good with Visio would be willing to help me for a fair fee or barter for equipment?
Let's talk!

Well, if you want it done right, you would go with a professional. There are many more details than you might imagine. I'd call Dennis back.

Actually that was a mistake. Dennis was not one of the ones I called. He is on my short list though! His prices are reasonable.

I've been in this for a decade now, I've built a theater and also visited dozens of others. There is so much that can go wrong. So much. If you want to avoid problems, call Dennis.

Or call Terry or Bryan (BPape).

It all comes down to the 'details' that matter so much more than you think. I had originally sought out a quote from DE as well but ultimately decided to pass on it (and instead shamelessly 'borrowed' from one of his designs). If I could turn the clock back I would have chosen him as my designer. One word of advice though, be absolutely sure (as much as you can be) about the actual layout and design you prefer. I changed so many things during the build as I learned more and more. So read up and take the plunge!

I think you make an excellent point Queen; it's almost like you have to go through it once to know what you want and don't want for v2. Then you hire Dennis. :D

Of course, my self serving POV, is to guide you through that process so you don't have to build one theater to decide what you want. :D
