I am doing a CIH setup by zooming. I obviously do not want the black bars to be too bright on my wall, so I was thinking of putting black cloth below and above the screen to absorb the light. The problem is that I plan to put sound treatments on the wall as well, and so the black cloth would not only have to be good at absorbing light, but would also have to be acoustically transparent. Is there any such cloth that anyone here would recommend? Thanks!

Actually if the fabric is acoustically absorbent it will increase the total net absorption of your wall treatment. You just don't want acoustically reflective.
Most of us use black FR701 GOM. It's around my screen. And it is in front of my speakers, and on my walls. It is acoustically transparent.

Thanks for the response...I have heard that velvet is good for deep dark blacks...is this material absorbent/transparent? Or would it be reflective?
Sorry for my lack of knowledge, I have virtually no experience with fabrics of any kind. :o

Not an expert but I believe that while black non sheeny velvet is better at not reflecting light than black GOM, it doesn't have the same acoustically transparent properties as the GOM.
