I tried to set it ip wirelessly and here is what happened:

Nope, not working. I configured it by plugging into my router, set the security and the IP address. Then unplugged and plugged into my DTV box.

I connected it to the DVR box, nothing happened. So, I went to the menu/network settings. The default settings they have in are not good. So, I went to advanced, and entered my own, but I can't connect. Actually, I don't know what to enter. My wireless can see the client, I looked, but it has no IP address showing. It shows that it is authorized.

When I do IP config on my computer I get:

default 192.168.11.1
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Ip address 192.168.11.2 (I know that is just my pc, right?)

When I go into the router, I have this: This is for the WAN information

IP Address 192.168.1.47
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.1.1 (Via DHCP)
DNS1(Primary) 192.168.1.1 (Via DHCP)
DNS2(Secondary) 192.168.1.1 (Via DHCP)

DHCP Server Address 192.168.1.1

For the LAN information, I get:

IP Address 192.168.11.1
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0

What is what with IP Addresses?

I know I am entering the wrong info, so what do I enter?

What is what here? I don't know what I should be entering for the fields in the DTV box. Help?

The actual Wireless Access Point says:

IP Address: 192.168.11.4
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Gateway: 192.168.11.1

So, what am I to enter?

I thought that I should just be able to plug it in after I configured. When I do, and I go to On Demand, nothing, it is like there is nothing plugged in. So when I go to menu/settings/network, and try to connect, it wont and it has an IP address of like 163.xxx.xx.x and a subnet of 255.255.0.0 That makes no sense to me. When I put in my settings (actually, not sure what to enter and that is why I need the help) it won't connect.

I know that when I look at my router, I can see a wireless client, it is autorized, but shows no IP address. That tells me that I have it configured with the right encryption and password, but it will not connect? I have WEP 128, which is 13 alpanumeric. When I set up, I did not see that option, somehow the tech talked me through it. Should I change the IP address of it? Please help as I want to get this thing running this weekend.

The local private address of your routrer apparently is 192.168.11.1 and all of the 192.168 addresses are local to your in home network controlled by your router.
I the public IP address of the the DTV VOD service is somethinng totally different possibly a 163.x.x.x address and should be supplied to you by DTV and this is what the DTV box should be trying to connect to.
You might try connecting the DTV VOD IP address as the URL in your brower and see if it tries to connect to DTV.
You can check the router to see what it's public address is but this is subject to change and I do not think that it should be entered into the DTV box.

You obviously know a lot more about this than I do. Yes, the defauls for the DTV box is that 163 or whatever and x.xx.xx I was changing that, should I not? If so, it sayd the gateway is 255.255.0.0 when I know my network is 255.255.255.0, should I change that in the DTV box?

I believe I supplied you with all the numbers I have. Bottom line, what do I need to enter into DTV to get this running? This is very frustrating. Why do I have 192.168.1.47 for the WAN but 192.168.11.1 as the gateway and the IP address? This is very confusing. I don't know the 1st thing about IP assignment I guess.

Your router which is the controller of your home network and whose address is 192.168.11.1 is also the your gateway to the public internet.
For example for my wireless laptop and my router whose address is 192.168.1.1 the gateway for my laptop is also 192.168.1.1.
I do not have a DTV DVR so do not know what your instructions but hopefully the state that you should use be a DHCP server (which is your router) since that supplies you with a private IP address and the gateway address.
I believe that 192.168.1.47 is the addresse the router has assigned to your DTV box on your internal network.
I beleive that you should tell your DTV box that the gateway IP is 192.168.11.1
Din't confuse the subnet mask 255.255....with the gateway addresse
You should not be changing the 163... addresss since I beleive that is the true address of the DTV VOB service.
Can you plese provide the complete 163.x.x.x address?

For the same price as a WAP, D* offers a plug in solution, no configuring, faster speed. I am returning the WAP and getting that. It is quicker, easier, and the same price.

Sudden change of heart. Thanks for the help however.
