I did this at christmas for their 150 off. This seems like a great deal.
joeblow 03-13-09, 12:21 PM Amazing. If I hadn't done the $150 deal a few years ago (and promptly cut up the card), I'd be all over this.
Would this also apply to those of us from say Canada or Guam?

Super Deal
fatmanosu 03-13-09, 01:08 PM Looks like a pricecut will happen in May or June.
Since you have to apply by 3/14/2009 and have to make a purchase with in 45 days.
sethhobrin 03-13-09, 01:42 PM Yeah I am guessing the price will drop to $300 near June. As long as your willing to apply for a new credit card and immediately pay this off its pretty good deal. My credit has never been hurt by taking advantage of a credit card offer like this but then again I have very good credit. Make sure and read the fine print people. HOpefully this gets some folks who would love a ps3 but cannot afford the 400 bucks some love.
joeblow 03-13-09, 01:53 PM My little brother's main gaming unit is the PSP (mainly for sports)... I'm going to let him know about this deal to see if he wants in on it.
todrigo 03-13-09, 02:45 PM I think that there will be a summer price cut but I don't think that this promotion has anything to do with it as it says in the small print that the purchase can be any single reciept for $349 and up. They swing this promotion up and down all the time the one they had going in January was better with $150 off $299 and then $100 off if you spent $1500 in the first 3months and another $100 off if you spent another $1500 in the next 3months. Of course that would mean keeping the card around for a min of a bout 10 months to receive all of the discounts.
throwback559 03-13-09, 09:52 PM damn what a deal
would you do this instead of paying the $150 to fix a broken ps3 ?
how does it work ?
buy the ps3 get $200 credit then pay off and cancel the card ?
^not if you got a 60 gig, this is for a crappy 40 gig......

Get the card, buy a PS3 with it (or anything +$350), and when the statement comes in the mail it will show a $200 credit. If you get a $400 PS3, it will net cost you $200.
Its not a deal, you have to qualify and get the credit card. They dont give to you all at once either. You have to build up point to get the money towards a sony purchase.

what?

I got my entire $150 credit in the very first statement. And if you can't qualify for a credit card (or have poor credit), you have more problems to work on than worrying about a videogame console in the first place.
EDIT: I just read the fine print... you have no idea what you are talking about. There is no requirement to build up points at all. Buy an item costing $350 or more and $200 will be credited on a future statement (8-12 weeks it says). It's basically free $200 in your pocket.
khowe22 03-14-09, 11:53 AM Just to be straight...I don't have to make the purchase from the SonyStyle store, correct? I read all the fine print and it just sounds like you have to make a $349 purchase within 45 days, whether it's a PS3 or a lawn mower.
joeblow 03-14-09, 01:08 PM That's how it worked for me in 2007.
DarrellG 03-18-09, 09:28 AM Did something change? Now it says you need to spend $500 a month for 6 months.
slicecom 03-18-09, 10:28 AM ^not if you got a 60 gig, this is for a crappy 40 gig......
I'd take a 40 gig over a 60 gig any day. It's MUCH quieter (I'm anal about noise level of my electronics), and I don't have any need for backwards compatibility.

joeblow 03-18-09, 10:51 AM Did something change? Now it says you need to spend $500 a month for 6 months.
They DID change it! It read differently just a few days ago when I responded above to GSlide's false claim.
Before you got $200 credit 8-12 weeks after your first +$350 purchase. Now you get $100 credit for doing that, and get another $100 credit by charging more to the credit card over the next few months after that:
You will qualify for a second $100 card credit when you charge to your Sony Card account an additional $1,500 within the first 3 months of account open date. You will qualify for a third $100 card credit when you charge to your Sony Card account an additional $1,500 by your 6 month anniversary.
So now only $100 is simple to get. It takes a minimum $1,850 total balance after three months for $100 more, and then a $3,350 total balance after another three months for a third $100. You can't just cut it up and forget about it for maximum benefit.
I have less than $50 balance on my current credit cards because I hate having to pay interest. If I were in someone else's shoes right now who hadn't already enjoyed the earlier deals, I would NOT sign up for this one.
sethhobrin 03-18-09, 12:02 PM If they changed the rules then this is a bunk deal now. stay away!
