I have an Explorer 8300HD from Comcast. It worked fine for quite some time. Recently though, I had to change all my connections -- I purchased a PS3 and wanted to connect it to my TV's loan DVI port so I moved the 8300 HD to component. This did nothing to the audio connections. The 8300HD is still connected to my 5.1 receiver via digital audio out and directly to the TV via 2 channel RCA.
Recently I have noticed an annoying hum coming from the TV speakers. It seems exaggerated when the content is recorded but I can't tell for sure.
Anyway, tonight I did some troubleshooting...
1. I changed the RCA cables out -- same issue.
2. I moved the audio to a different IN on the TV -- same issue.
3. I checked for the hum on the 5.1 receiver -- no issue.
4. The hum disappears completely (obviously) when the RCA cables are unplugged from the 8300 HD.
So, I don't think it's the TV but I am not sure if it is the 8300HD unit or my cables (neither of the sets I tried are very high quality and are old).
If it's the box I know I can just swap it out with Comcast (anyone know what models they're handing out in Houston these days?)
If it's the cables do I just get newer, higher quality ones?
If it's the TV is there any way to fix it?
Is this a grounding issue?
Any ideas? Suggestions?
Please let me know if you need more info to help you solve my problem.
Thanks
