I plan to drill a small hole in the corner, behind my rack from my 1st floor living room down into the crawlspace to run my speaker wire and subwoofer cable--then up through other holes at the rear speaker locations.

My primary question is whether or not i need to purchase some in wall cable, or is the regular cable that I have is ok.

My other (more expensive option) would be to actually install wall plates with banana speaker jacks, and run 8 gauge in wall wire for those. Then, just use banana terminals on the individual speaker cable lengths.

This sucks b/c we just moved into our house last week, and all of my gear is just strewn about the living room, not hooked up:confused:

what to do???

If this were a business, you would technically need riser rated cable. However, in your home, I think that your regular speaker wire will do fine. Wall plates can be used, but it would be just for looks.
