obviously i want killzone at 720p since it doesn't support 1080p. mlb09 and going into home is another issue. the xmb/dashboard is at 1080p until i start playing mlb09(which is capable of 1080p) or killzone. when i go into home it does the same thing...my settings are correct. i have 720p, 1080i, and 1080p all selected because my tv supports them. i have a 46" samsung a650. my blurays do not suffer from this issue. what could be causing this problem?

perhaps this should be a sticky since it is asked so often....
btw, the title screen says the game is optimized for 720p, but i can see how different displays may show 1080p better than 720p

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but the game will play at the resolution the developer's optimized it for, not necessarily the highest resolution your display supports. If you want to play a game that supports 1080p but isn't optimized for it, you have to go into display settings and uncheck everything except 1080p.

and doing that doesn't really gain you anything. 720p blown up is still 720p.
This gen 720P
NEXT GEN 1080P

Actually, MLB09 is sort of a different beast when it comes to resolutions. It does support a higher resolution of 1080p and it's not being scaled. However, there are some visual trade offs in the process so they default to 720 for everyone and allow the user to force it to 1080p if they choose to.

There are some games that will run at a native 1080p. Ninja Gaiden Sigma is one of these and looks incredible. Lair is another.......terrible game, but yes it does runs at 1080p. Most of the other games that run at that resolution are simpler games, such as PSN titles.
For the most part, 720p is the standard for games this generation. 1080p just requires too much hardware muscle, and the visuals must be compromised in order to make that happen.
Next generation we *should* see 1080p become the standard, unless the hardware manufactures try to pull a Wii on us. What I mean is they try to break even or make a profit on hardware, in which case there would only be a marginal gain in performance, instead of a giant leap that has been the case traditionally.
