I am trying to mount my plasma TV (Samsung SP R4232) on a narrow drywall with Omnimount UCL-L. However, I have a problem trying to configure it in a way that the TV will be right in the center of the wall when the mount is fully contracted. The wall is a 5/8" drywall 40" wide. There are three metal studs: one coming straight down the middle and two more 16" apart from the center stud (one on each side). Because Omnimount UCL-L needs to be installed on two studs, my options are either installing it on the left and center studs or the right and center studs. However, my TV will be off centered. I'm considering just using 6 toggle bolts on drywall (I'll drill 6 holes 8" away from the center stud - 3 on each side) to make my TV center on the wall. However, other threads on AVS Forum suggest that it's not strong enough, especially for a swivel mount. This is the only wall the would work in the apartment, and I already have the wall mount. Does anyone have a solution where I could make it work with what I have? Thank you very much.

Take a piece of 3/4 inch plywood cut is a few inches small then the TV. trim out the edges and paint it to match the wall. Then attach it to all three studs. Now you have an adequate mounting surface and can center your TV. You could also attach the mount to the plywood and then mount the plywood. That way the mount could be bolted vs lagged to the plywood.

We really need to pin a "how to mount a TV" thread to the top of the forum. Seems like we get these a few times a week when they really have nothing to do with 95% of the content of the forum.
