Getting ready to paint and *really* struggling with a paint scheme. First the basics - multi purpose basement space , one half theatre, other half future pool table. Eight foot finished ceiling, currently all tan paint with white trim. Beige berber carpet. Seating is a three seater- black. Black speakers on screen wall. In ceiling surrounds..

While I'm tempted to throw up a chair rail and paint the lower half black with upper half dark red/burgandy - we have alot of that color scheme in other parts of our home and the wife really wants something different although she does love the idea of the black lower half.

She is suggesting we go dark blue on top of the black. Thoughts on this ?
Half of me thinks it would look too much like a little boy's room, but if I accessorized it well enough I could make it work.

Searching around the galleries and doing extensive searches didn't yield me too many other existing setups that used blue, so is it not popular for a reason ?

Actually there are a few beautiful theaters here on AVS that use the blue theme. Links.

All three of these theaters use a blue scheme and do it well.

Plus I'm planning on using it as well so it can't be all that bad.

Listen to your wife she knows what she is talking about.

Good Luck

I went with all blue walls in my HT. But I am tossing around the idea of a two-tone paint scheme. I've taken pics, but with the camara flash, the blue looks lighter than it really is.

Used st. barts blue from Sherwin Williams are part of a two tone scheme on mine. Sherwin Williams has color visualizer on their web site that may help. Link to mine HT http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1123507 ]

Well, I'm giving the blue/black a go.
Ralph Lauren Black Bone and Adirondack blue.
First coat is on - second coat tomorrow.
Compared to the beige, I gotta say it's a pretty dramatic change...Will definitely help the theater with the lights out.

The thought crossed my mind that there's no way in he** that I'm ever going to be able to go back neutral after laying these darker colors down ! I can see my realtor shaking his head now... :-)

The blue I went with looks very similar to yours...I went with that color above a 36 inch chair rail, the black on the lower half.

I went with a dark navy and white in my theater. Penn State colors. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1056707 Behr Midnight dream. Lightens up under light. ceiling cove is ash white as are the cabinets. I didn't get much interest in my thread so i never posted better pictures. For the front wall I went with mouse ear black...Don't get me started on the other side of the basement. My wife came down and said, I don't like the color so I got to repaint it. Ceiling and walls.

currently all tan paint with white trim.

Whichever way you go, get rid of the white trim. I'd go with black trim. I've yet to see a room with white trim that didn't "stick out" during movies due to reflections.
