View Full Version : WDTV does NOT send audio over HDMI?

I've enjoyed this little gem for a couple of weeks now. I got the WDTV a couple of days after my new Mitsubishi LCD, learning the ins and outs of both of them together. The Mits is my first TV with HDMI (came from a DVI-equipped Sony RPTV).

I currently have my WDTV piped directly into my AVR via optical with no problems. I recently hooked my Mits TV coax out to my receiver as well, however I do not get any audio passthrough from my WDTV, to my coax input on the AVR. All other HDMI components do so, i.e. pass audio through the coax out of the TV.

I have the WDTV set at "digital" for audio out to send the optical out to my AVR. I'd assume if the WDTV was passing an audio signal over HDMI this would (still) be correct.

Thanks in advance.

WDTV does send audio over HDMI. If you select "Stereo" instead of "Digital" it would also downsample AC3 6ch to stereo for your TV.

If i may pick this up ...

Can it transmit plain dts ? How about dts-MA ? And Dolby True HD ? (although true hd seems to be getting less and less relevant). Thanks in advance.

are you referring to the original WD TV? in that case, i don't think it can handle DTS-MA or TrueHD. You won't hear anything if you choose that audio track. for those, you need to convert the tracks to DTS or AC3. As for DTS, you need to have a receiver that can decode DTS since the WD TV will only send it and not decode it itself. if you don't have a receiver, then you need to convert the DTS to AC3 audio.

or get a newer WD TV Live or WD TV Plus or any other newer WD TV model.
