I believe that this will be, at least for me, the greatest video game ever made. I am totally addicted to Guitar Hero and the fact that they are making an all Metallica game is just sick. BTW, if anyone wants to battle online when this comes out my username is jayhawk8808.

It's stupid that you can't import the songs from the disc into GH:WT. It's also stupid that you can't import the Death Magnetic tracks from GH3/WT into this. I refuse to support these standalone releases, the Rock Band DLC platform is brilliant and it's stupid of Activision to not do something similar.

The double-bass pedal thing is awesome, though. I've always thought it was a bad move to not have that in Rock Band or Guitar Hero: WT. Does the double pedal work with Rock Band 2?

I doubt it 'cause they would have to change the tracks to include the additional drum peddle. BTW, I know that with GH2 for PS2 you could hack your PS2 and import any song you want and then create the notes, not sure how that would work with the PS3.

Why would they need to change the tracks for the second pedal? Isn't it just a splitter that leads to two pedals? There aren't actual lines the specify Left Pedal, Right Pedal, are there?

Here's another confirmation.

If you previously downloaded the Death Magnetic song pack for the Xbox 360 or PS3 version, you'll also be able to play it with GH: Metallica. Meanwhile, those of you who buy the PS2 or Wii versions of GH: Metallica will get three songs from Magnetic - "Broken Beat & Scarred," "Cyanide" and "My Apocalypse"

Yes a splitter works to get a 2nd pedal working, although you need a special one, not just a regular headphone splitter.
In every other game though, in songs that are originally played with 2 kick pedals, they only map every second note, so that it is realistic to play it with only 1 pedal. From what I gather, this super-expert mode (or whatever it is called in GH:Met) will map every single kick pedal note. Then its up to you to choose what foot to play which note with. Since both pedals go into the same input, it would not be possible to map a left and a right kick in the note chart.

They released a demo on 360 (if you have GH:WT or Rock Band you'd already have the controllers). Basically just another GH game, albeit with (makes devil-horns) Metallica!

They don't map every second note! They only map the notes that are being played by the right kick pedal. That's a HUGE difference.

Agreed. I didn't mean throughout the entire song. I was referring to an example where the kicks are being played in bursts, such as many metal songs, where the right pedal WOULD be every second note.

I tried watching some of Azuitereaction (or whatever his name is) live stream yesterday as he was going to play with the double bass, however, when I logged on, he was playing guitar because the double bass adaptor broke. he was not happy. It will be interesting to see how the second bass pedals work out for those playing on expert + drums.

It's not funny if nobody understands what it means, let us in! Anyway, I played some GHM last night and it kicks @$$. I am a little disappointed with the Alice In Chains song choice. Don't get me wrong, I love the song but it is kinda boring to play. There are better choices out there to choose. The difficulty on some of the songs is pretty high especially on expert but that was to be expected.

On topic, wife picked up the game for me yesterday, and I had about 15 minutes to play it last night. Spent a good 5 of those calibrating it, leaving 10 minutes for game play.
From what I saw, I like it. Great songs, i LOVE seening the band up on stage, in the various arena setups that they've had over the years.
HOWEVER.
I am playing with the ION drum set, which has me greatly disappointed in this game. Not sure if this is the same for GHWT or not, as I have never played the game. But the first song i played, I was using the cymbals, and about 30 seconds in, the game froze, I had to quit. So second song, i used pads only, was 3/4 way through Sad But True on Expert, accidentally hit a cymbal, game froze. When I say froze, I mean that it said that my 4 Pad Drum Controller was unplugged from Port 2, and there was nothing I could do to get it to recognize it again. So third song, this extra orange note shows up, so that I have 5 notes plus kick. This was playing Enter Sandman. Orange note appears to have been triggered every time I hit yellow pad (ie both yellow and orange depressed when i hit yellow) but none of the orange notes registered. So WTF.
Anyways, didn't have any time to play around with it or whatever, so I didnt really try anything to get it to work.
Any input from anyone who has the ION set with either GH:Metallica or GHWT?

Hopefully they send out a patch PRONTO to get these ion drums working properly, or this will have been $70 down the drain.

As much or as little as you want it to have. I will go through the game without ever touching anything but drums. You can go through the entire game without touching the drums or mic. Someone else will go through the game without ever touching drums or a guitar (mic only), and another person will play it only when there are 4 of them to make a full band.

IIRC, the Ion kit had some problems with GH:WT at launch -- cymbals registering as both cymbal and pads together. That was soon fixed with a patch.

The demo for the Metallica game played perfectly on the ION.

Did you try the ION in controller port 1?

EDIT: sorry, this ^^^ is the for the 360 version. I forgot what forum I was in. :o

Thanks for the input anyways. Did a little reading on the GH forums, and this seems to be a common problem in GHWT. Several PS3 owners complain of the same 2 problems, cymbal hits getting you disconnected, or randomly getting the 5 lane drum chart (ie orange note).
The thing that I find funny is that it works on XBOX 360. That suggests to me that the hardware and the game ARE compatible, its just the programming for the PS3 version that is making it troublesome to get it fixed....

sgolko
03-31-09, 10:21 AM
One thing that I have read to "fix" this problem until (if) a patch comes out is to just unplug the cymbals. Not ideal, but if it will let me play....

IMO the ghwt controller is the best one I've ever used. It doesn't drop any notes like the gh3 one would and it feels very robust. I've used the RB strats in the past and this one blows them away. The best part is that you can use it w/ RB1 and 2 as well. Just having this new controller has re-sparked my interest in these games (I was getting burned out).

How is the sound in this game? The only thing that prevents me from buying any more Guitar Hero games is that the sound is horrible in the game. All songs sound very quiet and muted no matter what I do with my speaker set up. Put in Rock Band and turn on the Double Bass and Dolby Digital options and my speakers are put to their limit. (Which is musical heaven for me). I guess I'm just wondering if GH:M had made any improvements in the sound department so I can rock out with some nice, crisp, clean, loud music playing as well. :D

I played for about 3 hours last night and I had no complaints with the sound. One of my biggest problems with GH:WT is that when you go into Star Power that you can't actually hear the song anymore. That doesn't appear to be a problem with GH:M. I also prefer the visual style of GH:M over the other GH games.

And, the song selection is right up my alley, too.

I played this game last night for an hour or two and I absolutely love all the Metallica bells and whistles Activision included. I love the different stages they included for the various Metallica tours throughout their history; Justice, Puppets, Load etc. My one gripe like everyone else's is that you can import this game into GH:WT - just say no to standalone disks (I hear it will be the same for GH:Greatest Hits.)

Jdurg

Well, I had to leave work early today to get some fuses replaced in my car, and on my way home I stopped by a GameStop. GH:M was sitting right there for $60 so I picked it up. Yes, the sound is better than GH:WT, but it's not up there yet with the sound in Rock Band. Still, it didn't sound muffled and "dead" like GH3 and some songs in GH:WT sounded. No Excuses was a blast to play, and I actually enjoy playing the slower, ballad style songs of Metallica's rather than the fast paced, my hands now hurt style songs. (E.G. Nothing Else Matters is more fun for me than Battery is).

Hi guys.
Im also looking forward to getting this game when it comes out. Its going to be very hard though and I only usually play on medium (my fingers cramp up after a while of playing, too easily :)

I have all the GH games except Aerosmith
I also have RB1 and RB2

On a related note... what does every recommend for a better bass drum pedal for the GHWT kit?? I really hate the drum pedal it came with. Feels stupid and not the best feel, and my foot/leg gets sore. Would love to get one of those aftermarket ones that are metal but it seems most of them are only for Rock Band
Can anyone suggest a better aftermarker drum pedal for GHWT (for less than $100) because I think Im going to need it once I get GH:MET :)
Lars is an insane player
My fav drummer is Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater who also is a god on the drums as is Neil Peart of Rush

The Les Paul is actually better since it has a thinner neck
Your fingers will cramp up faster on the new GHWT guitar even though it looks cooler.
For this GHM game you will want less hand cramp ups :)
I have 2 Les Pauls and the GHWT guitar and mostly use the Les Paul

Hey another thing.... since Metallica has TWO guitarists, does it let you have a RHYTHM (James) guitar track to play and someone plays the LEAD (as Kirk)?
If not that sucks
Dont know why they cant incorporate BOTH rhythm and lead in one song when thats the way its actually played, esp now that they have support for the whole band.
Or does it only let you play ONE of the guitars and one bass (as Robert)

Also does it have any of the older bassists in there? prob not (Jason or Cliff)?

Just got it the other day and have been playing with it a fews in quick play and just started tour mode with guitar and bass and sang one song.
Gonna play for the 1st time on drums to get the trophy for that.
Easy is like Medium on the other GH games. so this will be a true challenge at the harder levels.

Tried to play with someone online but it seems no one is ever there unlike when I play RockBand 2 which always has some folks to play with.

I guess this is expected as its brand new and somewhat specialized for only fans of Met. Hope others join in soon.

Graphics are typical GH style. All the extra stuff that in the zone of Metallica is cool with the extra fan and behind the scene videoes.

Hey did anyone have the same problem as I did kinda like a bug in the game?

I was playing a song and when I missed one of the notes, the sound stopped playing from my guitar for a while (about 10 seconds) but all the other band members I could heard (I was playing solo quickplay). Then after a while the sound came back. I could still play the notes on the highway and it would show I was hitting them but just no sound!!
whats up with that? Is this code defective?

Hope to see some of you online sometime

One bad thing did happen though. One of my drum stick holder tabs broke/snapped off and fell into the hole where it attaches!
I must have accidentally hit it when banging on my drums in the solo sections.
DOH!

Reminder - Lower your drum stick holders during normal play
Dont know if I want to open it up to pull the loose piece out and try to reattach it (if even possible)

Put the disc again last night, got thought about 2 songs before I got too frustrated from the Ion set and quit.
Then I got to thinking. Any reason why I cant use a simple splitter to make both the yellow tom and hi-hat both work, in the yellow tom input? Same goes for green/crash?

I believe there's no problem with splitters doubling up triggers on the ION kit. I know some people use splitters to trigger both the game controller and an e-drum head unit simultaneously. Seems like your plan would work, but I don't know for a fact.

So what's the compatibility problem with the Ion on the PS version?

Essentially the cymbal inputs don't work. if you hit a cymbal, the PS3 thinks that the Ion set has been disconnected, and its game over. I haven't been able to get it to connect back, but a friend of mine has been able to.
So what I have been doing is to unplug the cymbals, which leaves you with your 4 pads. Just like the RB set. But now I am so used to using cymbals, that this really messes me up seeing them there but not being allowed to hit it. So then I plugged my hi hat and crash into the yellow and green drum inputs, respectively. This was workign better, except when I get to a part where you are rising the hi hat, then it goes to yellow/blue toms at the same time. I go to do this, but my yellow pad is disconnected. I COULD just get used to it, but then I got back to RB, and i'm all screwed up there.

So, one of these days i'll pick up a pair of 1/4" splitters, and see how it works....
