I'm new the multichannel music scene and I have been purchasing a few SACD's (based on the many "which SACDs are the best" threads) and last night I got my first DVD-a (Mark Knopfler - Sailing To Philadelphia). As I was listening to it I realized that I have owned Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler albums on LP, cassette tape, mp3, CD, SACD, and now DVD-a. This is the only band/artist that I have owned on all of the major formats (that I am aware of) that have been around in my time.

This made me wonder which bands/artists my fellow AVSers have been listening to across formats? I thought this could be an interesting discussion and I expected to see an existing thread on this, but couldn't find one...so I decided to ask the question myself.

Which bands/artists have you followed and on which formats? Also, enlighten me if there are formats I am missing.

I've followed a few bands along the way. I've owned Agents of Fortune by BÖC on LP (multiple copies likely), Cassette, CD, Mo-Fi Master CD, Sony Remastered/Expanded CD and SACD.

Fragile by Yes is another I've had on 4 formats (LP, Cassette, CD, DVD-A).

Rush: LPs, Cassettes, CDs and the MVI (oooh, LOL). Granted not all the same album but still...

Likely many other bands I have on multi-channel I've had on at least 2 or 3 other formats. "I know what I liiiiike and I liiiike...." (Add Genesis to the list).

For me it's not about the bands I came along with but the new bands (to me) that I wouldn't have otherwise noticed as much or at all (Porcupine Tree, Depeche Mode, Bjork, Talking Heads).

Also, I love Knopfler's Shagri-La DVD-A. Great tunes and sound on that one.

Genesis: LP, cassette, CD, MP3, DVD, SACD

Peter Gabriel: LP, cassette, CD, MP3, DVD, SACD

Rush: LP, cassette, CD, MP3, DVD, Blu-Ray

The Police: LP, CD, SACD

Probably a longer list that I discovered because of hi-rez formats.

You guys have good taste.

Javatime, I was wondering how long it would take to get an 8 track mention.

8 tracks were just a little before my time. My mom had some that I remember listenening to, but I have never owned an 8 track of my own.

I think at this point, it's mostly concerts that have been released on blu ray. I don't think very many (if any) have actually released albums on BD yet. There is a thread about Neil Young coming out with one sometime, but I don't believe it's available yet.

You could do a search on something like Amazon and see what you come up with.
