View Full Version : B&O 103-inch plasma introduced

Bang & Olufsen has introduced a serious high-end 103-inch HUGE plasma. It's the BeoVision 4-103.

Check it out. There's a very cool video of the automatic stand that lowers and hides the Beo speaker and the bar when the TV is off.

I don't understand the whole raising and lowering thing but it looks pretty awesome. Wish you can get 103 inch plasma for under 10,000. Those 7.1 speakers look crazy!!!

Every 120 hours the tv re-calibrates itself? WTF? It's like optimus prime.

Does it come with a free structural survey on a buyer's house?

Looks like a good deal for Panasonic, since they provided the panel. It appears to be the same panel from the 103PF9UK.

It does look cool, I'll give it that.

I think the concept here is that you buy the display first and build the house around it, LOL.

Also, if you supply a pic, adjust your camera down a few megs so the file size won't crash the server.

Are you talking about B&O? They have been around for years, mostly high end audio. They are the "style" police in electronics. Company has fallen on hard times lately, but still viable.

yowser..... they take a 103" panny panel that retails for $70K add a nice stand :) and sell it for $134,000 plus how much is VAT now about 15-17.5%?

so somewhere around $155-160K...

You are looking at it from a videophile perspective, it's a fashion statement for the wealthy. Consider it furniture, if you will. I love the look of it, it's not meant to be practical or mundane....fashionistas will love it..

PQ on B&O products have always been top notch and among the best. It doesnt have the black levels of Kuro, but is top notch in every other respect.

Apparently excellent processing is what really sets them apart. I saw one at a B&O store in a theater room and they look very very nice with absolutely spot-on color, to my eyes anyway. Minimum luminance is not quite at kuro level but seemed a bit better than the 11G (not 12G) panasonics, probably because of some enhanced processing.

I can't believe your friend might buy one of the 103 inchers though, thats pretty friggin' awesome.

In addition to great PQ its the little things B&O does to set aside themselves from the rest (even the tip end we are familiar with). One thing that sticks out is when turning the display on and off its doesnt just flick on and off, but rather turns off/on in sort of a curtain fashion much like a picture appearing or disappearing in power point under the curtain setting. Gives a much better "high end" experience every time to you turn it off and on. The other cool thing is you can choose what color you want the aluminum frame to be, and they come professionally calibrated from the factory.

I hve always liked B&O, because I agree with their philosophy in some respects. They are one of the very few that puts a lot into the form of their product. Most HT equipment even high end stuff has very poor design.

I'm lucky, I live one block from a B&O store in DC :p As far as the 65", I had it demo'ed to me in person and you get what you pay for with B&O. They really make quality components in both audio (their specialty which they have been doing for many, many years) and now in flat-screen LCD and plasma panels provided by Panasonic. Compared to my Elite 151, the blacks aren't as great, but everything else is much better. As ercc said, it's all in the processing with their sets. The BeoVision 4 series (and I believe some of their other series) are self-calibrating for small changes over the life of the panel. You just push a button, and it does all the rest. As a side note for those interested, the 65" plasmas (Beo 4) go for $20K, same price as the 70" Sony XBR7. All of their stuff is high-end, but fantastic. You have to see some of their audio, it's really unlike anything else out there in look. Sound quality is superb as well. Just wish I had the money to afford their stuff :(

B&O is a company gears toward the ultra wealthy. When I saw the tv with the automatic up and down stand, I am thinking why when it is off it is so low to the floor that my kids or my dog would break this tv. OBviously, I am thinking from an average person and not someone who is loaded with money and the thought of that does not cross his/her mind.

I am happy that my 151fd has pretty close to picture 1080p, it is just not as big that's all. All the calibrator professional should be worry losing their jobs because only 1 or 2 percent of the people can really afford this tv.

The BV7-40 LCD,and the BV9 plasma,TV has an integrated Beosystem 3 processor, whereas with the BV4 Plasma panel the Beosystem 3 processor is a separate unit.
The Beosystem 3 is a versatile unit, and is compact as there is no need for integrated amplifiers since B & O speakers are active.
The BV4,and BV9,apparently use specially selected Panasonic panels, and I have been impressed with their PQ,particularly with SD material.

It's 100,000 Euros, 1 Euro =1.3639 dollars, Plus VAT(value added tax)in Denmark is 25%(the maximum in the EU member states). This brings you in the $170,000 range. You could buy 3 new base model Porsches for the same price, Boxster, Cayman and a 911(comes to $174,000 without any discounts).

The only thing I've ever been able to afford from Bang & Olusen is their radio. I've owned a Beolit 707 for many years, which was one of those products that was displayed in the museum a long time ago. In fact, I've haven't even used the radio in a long time, and should sell it...anybody interested?:D

Ok, so it wasn't on that Scandinavian skiing vacation w/the two nordic blondes...:D

Before Pioneer folded tent (still not 100% convinced) on their display division, they were attempting to follow in the same steps as Bang & Olufsen by purchasing their glass from Panasonic, and then adding in their own secret sauce to make a more high-end brand specific PDP. Never got to that point w/Pioneer. B&O really does has a long standing high-end niche carved out in the "rare air" of style and innovation.

I do love their design though and I think you may be referring to my sub which looks B&O but its B&W.

Basically I own a lot of things you can buy without getting into a HT setup. Problem with B&O is that its all proprietary meaning you cant buy their CD player or speakers and use them with anything but B&O equipment.

It's all about design and general use, not reference-level analysis of their equipment. For me and for most people here, that's not worth the outlandish pricing, but not everybody is as concerned with accuracy as with convenience, and as already mentioned, there's something to be said for the extent to which they meet those demands.

That said, I've always thought the speakers and newer audio equipment (since it's gone the Bose 'no outsiders allowed' route) didn't offer enough of this to justify the pricing/quality sacrifice. I have to say, though, the processing on their displays is almost unbelievable. I'll refrain from the 'dvd on these vs. blu ray on that' extreme, but they really are phenomenal. At this size, especially, this has a big impact.

I can't imagine a room in which this would look like a good fit, but Panasonic's sold a couple thousand of theirs, so I don't see why this wouldn't move.

Very cool about the power on flicker, btw. Never knew that.

If some of you have some plans to come to Europe, it looks like the Munich store has a 103" on display. Hopefully I have the chance to visit the store next weekend.

I do own some of the B&O stuff including the Beosystem 3 (AV processor) and the Beolab 5 active speaker. The speakers are outstanding, but the AV processor is very buggy, 2 years later and several software updates (which by the way only a B&O engeneer can do) it still has some issues.

Hey Bruzzi,

Did you ever make it to the Soho location to see the 103 in the flesh?

Sorry, I totally forgot about it. :o

I'll try to go there today (or at least call them). :)

At that screen size 1080p is a waste, 720p would be fine because your eyes wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Go look at the charts.

Thanks...I'd love to hear how they have it set up...background and staged effects.

I wonder if that beast comes in a black bezel because it won't be seamless in the dark. :D Add another 5G to the total.

I called them yesterday and they said the display model should be here in NY around July 10-15.
Right now it's in Chicago. :(

Hopefully I'll be allowed to take pics. :)

Anyone seen IRL pictures of the TV anywhere on the internet?

BruZZi: We are waiting eagerly. :)

I saw this some days ago and god dammit its huge.

The picture is very good as well. They used some kind of High-Def demo.

I also saw a TV transmission somewhere showing the automatic stand in function.
