Hello,

First time poster, definite noob about this stuff. I am trying to build an audio setup for around $1,000 for my living room. The room dimensions are 16'x19' with a 12' ceiling. I have 40" samsung lcd tv, blu-ray player, xbox 360, and WII. Use is 85% movies/gaming, and 15% music.

Through my research and reviewing the forum I came up with this setup within my budget:

Receiver: Pioneer Elite VSX01TXH - $399
Fronts: Yamaha NS-555 - $170
Center: Yamaha NS-C444 - 85
Sub: BIC Acoustech H-100 - $260

I figure I'll add surround speakers later when I save up more money to complete a 5.1 setup.

I had some Yamaha speakers before and liked them, and with a $1000 budget I am not expecting the best sound ever, just hopefully something decent for the price.

Is this a decent setup for my uses and budget or would anyone recommend something better? I guess I also wonder if the pioneer elite receiver might not be too powerful for the 6 ohm yamaha speakers?

Thanks,
Joe

Joe,

This sub-forum is really about the theory of audio and not really about system purchase. On this same page another user asked something similar. I gave him my view on his situation and used a mock budget of 1000 as an example.

Before you spend any of your money.

Let's add some theory. Speakers are the hard part. Scrimp and save on everything else. You should spend several times as much on speakers as the electronics. You may be happier with just two mains and a sub. Use the center money for better mains. Might I recommend used?
