I currently have a round dish (DirectTV) with non-HD service. I have 2 multiswitches: a 2X6 and a 2X4. The 2X6 goes to two 2-tuner DVRs and 2 leads go up to the attic where there is a 2X4 multiswitch. The 2X4 provides signals to 2 more 2-tuner DVRs. (It would be difficult to get additional cables to the attic.) I am going to start the overdue move to HD by replacing one of the DVRs with an HD DVR. The one I am going to replace is hanging off the stacked (2X4) multiswitch. I believe the new dish will have 5 leads going to the multicwitch. I would prefer to replace the existing 2X6 multiswitch with a 5X8 switch ahead of time. Does the 2X4 switch also need to be replaced, or will it work with the HD receiver and the new multiswitch? If it needs to be replaced, what with? If it matters, all the cables are good quality RG6.

Thanks

Why bother? Too many "switches" in your posting for me to make sense of it. Call DTV for a new HD DVR system. They will install a 5 LNB antenna with ONE line coming into your home and then IF you are going to feed more than one TV, they will install a SWM switch that has several available ONE line feeds. I have 4 on my system. This new equipment allows 2 channel operation with a DVR (record 2 different shows and watch a previous recorded show or watch one live show while recording another channel). Older equipment required 2 lines coming from the satellite in order to do this.
