Anyone knows what's inside this machine?
I've heard that the DVD mechanism is the same as the DV-S9 that is a pretty good player.
However in terms of LD what's inside? A Pioneer LD-S9?

Some info, partly gleaned from the web.

The Pioneer DVL-H9 was a state-of-the-art high end combi LD/DVD player. It's a Japanese machine equipped with an advanced third generation high resolution 3D Y/C separation filter, and Hi-bit Legatolink Conversion S. Some consider the LD playback performance to be better than the highly regarded LD-S9. Pioneer used technology from their flagship DV-S9 DVD in the DVL-H9. It’s hefty weight of 16.2kg, is heavier than both the LD-S9 and DV-S9 (15kg), due to its solid build designed to reduce vibration. As a result, It's very quiet during operation. It has a quick side turn function.

IIRC, the DV-S9 uses Burr-Brown PCM1702 20bit DACs, but I think the H9 uses superior 24bit PCM1704s, although I can't confirm this.

Great info but the images are far from images. I tried to open and ALL I got was a hieroglyphic like inscription mess.

Nice player but I never really warmed to the gold tone Pioneer used for much of their home market equipment. :(

Hey Everyone...
Hey Electrico no hard feelings ok.
About this player i don't know really where it stay, but i'm almost aboslutelly shure that as for LD Playback is not as good as the X9 or even the LD-S9...
We are talking here about different price of machines, and Pioneer never made combos for High End market...Maybe for a very good range of quality products but not as high end as the 2 mentioned models.
Ad the DV-S9 picture quality it was good before....now even the Pioneer DV-LX50 can get a picture 40% improved...
In my opinion i prefer separates...

Does anyone know where I could still get such a machine?

What machine? A DVL-H9?
Check Ebay....sometimes they show up...
But don't expect a High End Laserdisc Player, only expect a High End Combo Player, and this means, the Best Combo Player ever made.
