I walked into a Sixth Avenue Electronics today looking to buy one of the remaining Samsung DLPs with the LEDs (I already have 2), but I decided to wander over to the LCD section.
There's a JVC marked down to a decent price. I do a quick lookup on my iPhone and see its discontinued. So I chat the dude up and after a few minutes I talk to the guy down even more to well below what you'd expect to pay for a 52" 1080p. Plus free shipping. I don't want to pull the trigger until I see some reviews, so I tell him I'll be back.
I come home to look up the TV and I can't find a single review online. That can't be good news.
This is the TV: http://tv.jvc.com/product.jsp?modelId=MODL028348&pathId=114&page=10
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm not in the immediate need for a TV as I'm finishing my basement (I can wait a month or two) but I'll pick a TV up if I see one at a good deal.
Thanks.

Heh, no reviews, no comments. I noticed on the MFG page it says the contrast ratio is 2000:1. Isn't that REALLY REALLY low?
Anyway, without talking exact prices lets just say I got this guy down to 3 digits. My other option is the Samsung 550 for a couple hundred bucks more.

The 30000:1, 40000:1 contrast ratings you normally see are dynamic contrast ratios. They really should not be used to compare tvs from different manufacturers because each one has different methods of measuring. The jvc's 2000:1 native ratio would be pretty good if it is really that high.
A 52" lcd in that range seems like a good value. I havent seen many jvcs but ive heard some are pretty decent. I purchased a 42" a few years ago but i didnt have it long enough to give an opinion on reliability. Picture quality was good on it and it had a very sleek style to it. I would look at both of them at 6th ave with similiar picture adjustments to see which looks best to your eyes. The 550 has received very good reviews and may be a little better but only you and your budget can determine if its 200 better.
Have you tried doing a search on this forum for threads on the jvc?

yes, I tried a search but didn't find much on any newer JVC models. I may splurge for the Samsung since I have 2 other Sammies and like them a lot.

That sucks that you cant even find any owner reviews on them. It doesnt surprise me though with a 2999 list price. Although i have no idea what they were actually selling for before the big discounts.
this tv is worth 800 to 700 at the most even at that size because the instruments inside are old as malaise. 3d conmb filter ha is what is used in regular tv's.

I think they were going for 1600 or so, but I'm not sure.
I havent even heard the term "3d comb filter" in a few years. Didn't even know that still existed and/or something to tout.

I just picked one up at Costco today, it was 1299.99 CAD, which is like 1000.00USD for a 52" TV.
I'm surprised there is very little information about this model online...
