Can someone help me understand the need for the 60 or 120HZ cable when the HZ refers to the refresh rate of the TV. What does that have to do with the cable you use which connects to the components. If the TV is 120HZ already then why the need for the special cable? I guess the questions comes from looking at the monster line and the 800 series HDMI cable supports the 60HZ and the 1000 series HDMI supports 120HZ.
It has absolutely nothing to do with the cable. As you said, the TV handles the refresh rate. It is all a marketing ploy to get you to buy a more expensive cable.
Just because the HDTV refreshes at 120Hz, it does not mean that it accepts a signal at 120Hz. None do. Not to mention the fact that there are no sources that output a 120Hz signal.

It would seem that Monster Cable is run by a descendant of P.T.Barnum.

Elusive marketing at its finest. Technically speaking, they are not lying, as their cables have the capability of passing a 120hz signal (which doesn't exist), just like many other HDMI cable manufacturers (they just don't advertise it).
They are basically allowing the general public to figure it out on their own. Long story short, get the cheapest HDMI cable you can find for typical runs.
