The PS3 should have an adapter for the red/white analog audio cables. Not sure if you have to buy it separately or if it comes with the console.

What model Onkyo do you own? I would think the Onkyo have Digital In (Optical). PS3 HDMI to TV and PS3 Digital Optical to Onkyo.

It comes with the Analog AV cable.

He has a stereo receiver. Onkyos (and most other stereo ones I've seen) are limited to analog audio.

Spend $200 to $300 and upgrade your Onkyo! Do not fight it ;)

lol...yeah im def fighting it. ill admit i have drifted into the surround sound forum the past couple of days:D. i just cant justify another big purchase to my gf and if im going to do it im going to do it right, but im the man and i will do as i damn well please haha yea right:). also, ive had this stereo setup for almost ten years and it still sounds great to my untrained ears (and my neighbors).

btw, i realized after i posted how ignorant this question is. hdmi to tv for video, analog stereo ps3 outputs to onkyo. simple, assuming there are no issues w the ps3 sending audio out of both outputs? since the hdmi is faster than the analog outputs would this be an issue?

thanks.

does anyone know if there would be an issue using the ps3 hdmi output for video and its analog stereo outputs to the onkyo for audio? it just seems that the video would be a touch faster than the audio thus creating an audio lag.

im have no factual evidence to base this concern on, purely newbie theory.

There is a possibility of a lip synch problem between the HDMI outputs and the analog outputs. This should never happen but it has happened to some of my friends.

There's only one way to be sure and that is to try it.

The lag won't be from the PS3 but it may occur if there is a lot of processing in your TV. I've seen multiple systems that use HDMI (video) and analog audio connections and they have not had any problems. They tend to be dorm systems driving a PC monitor & 2 cheap speakers.
