well hi guys and gals just got into htpc and dont have a clue

hardware=

sony muteki 7.2

samsung 32" 550 1080 res

dual core gaming rig e4600/ddr2 1066/gtx 280/ total 320 gb hdd/ audigy2 value sound card(eeww i know)

now ive been into gaming for awhile but ........

HOW THE HECK DO I CONNECT MY SONY TO MY COMPUTER SOUND CARD
ive tried optical (from the onboard sound)
tried coaxial from the audigy
cant get any of the dts (ie suround) too work and yes i have proper software to output the signal(er windvd and cyberlink dvd) i tink

so the sony will play stereo but not surround (movies or games)
WENT TO POST URL WONT LET ME FOR THE MANUAL

:eek: so i got no idea yes ive read the manual

so if any one has any idea pls post maybe i need a new hdmi sound card maybe im stupid and a noob (lol) thx in advance

ok so ive got the surround working in vista media centre its outputing er prologic2 sumthing but still not working in my games for some reason


so stands to reason if the hardware connection is now working it should be a matter of a setting somewhere maybe er lol

Well since you wont probably check back on this thread. You posted this in the wrong forum. Hence the lack of replies.

ProLogicII will handle "most" of your audio unless you are using a specific application that passes SPDIF through your connection to your receiver and the source is DTS or Dolby. Then the ProLogicII symbol will go away and be replaced with DTS or Dolby. All of the applications that are able to you will need to be configured to pass SPDIF as they do not do this by default. Your SC's DAC's are most likely worse than those on your receiver. Also, you will run into several situations where you end up with bad sound such as extremely low levels or Humming etc. Many of these problems have solutions for them. Google is your friend.

One of the big headaches I have found with using a computer as the media source is different applications / games are all at different sound levels. I often have to adjust the receiver up/down to keep the sound level at, or near the same.
