What are some good scenes to illustrate black detail and white detail (Blu-Ray). Wanted a couple movie scenes, one for both scenarios that you could show pre/post calibration that would hopefully clearly show the benefit of calibration. The more bigger the wow factor the better...What are some good ones?

When I had mine calibrated he used "The Fifth Element" as one of his reference disks, both DVD and BR. I asked why, I guess it's just personal preference and being familiar with the way material SHOULD look once calibrated. I would recommend "Underworld Evolution" for blacks (just my opinion). But it's a great "Dark" movie...;)

I do not own Blu-ray but since you seem to have few replys, I will mention the following films that I use on PAL DVD.

For picture quality - skin tones, I use Fifth Element, Aeon Flux, Starshiptroopers, Moonraker & Dr No ultimate editions, Hitchhikers Guide to the Gallaxy, Jurassic Park.

Alien Vs Predator 2 Requiem has very dark tunnel and night scenes.

Saraha action adventure in the desert, with a solar collector station. Has very bright scenes.

Sunshine scifi where they restart the dimming sun is also very bright but often tinted yellow scenes.

THX Optimizer 2.0 Demo Disc II, has white boxes and black squares test screens that go nearer to 100%white and 0%black than the old THX Optimizer. So can set white and black level more accurately, and easily see if there is any crushing-clipping of details. I use it to check my settings.

How about Urma Thulman in her coffin in Kill Bill Vol. 2 before she turns on the flashlight? If you can barely make out some shapes and movement you're probably doing pretty well for black level and shadow detail. There's a kind of wow factor involved in terms of the intensity of the scene.
