Ok--searched threads and couldn't find an answer. I am recording HD television and transferring the ts files to computer via firewire with CAPSDVHS as per the thread in this forum. I want to keep those files in High Definition--VLC Media player will play them, but it doesn't look as good or sound as good playing it back from my computer to my Panasonic Plasma and maybe its because its hooked up by DVI (although that should not matter).

When I encode them to MPEG, DVD compliant they look very good. I would be satified just to have DVD with 5.1 sorround but I have no idea how to do that. In other words, I just want to encode DVD compliant files with 5.1 surround because I use Momitsu Network DVD player to playback these files and that won't play back High Def MPEG files. But I'd also like to know the best way to store and play high definition video on computer.

So I guess I am just looking for advice on what to do. I don't use Windows Media Edition, so its a pain to play back video from the computer because I use a universal remote and can't control the computer with it and don't want to add another remote to the equation.

I have a Blu-Ray DVD Player--Panny DMP-BD35 as well so I'd like to burn high definition DVDs as well as files existing on my computer.

See my response in your other posting.
Keep the files as transport streams and HD resolution in VideoReDo.

Thanks for the response--since I posted this I did check out some other options and I think you are dead on with the links to those media players, although I am leaning towards the IOBox by Dragontech:

Seems to be a better product for the same price or even a little less.

cmulder--

The IOBox is a good example of the NMT breed (and is also available from Digital Connection (http://www.digitalconnection.com/products/video/100hd.asp), an AVS Forum supporter, at a very good price).

However, if your interest is in playing only ATSC (i.e., MPEG-2) transport streams, rather than H.264/mkv/m2ts stuff, I recommend that you have a look at the TViX R-3310 (http://www.digitalconnection.com/products/video/r3310.asp), which does the best job I've seen to date on ATSC streams. It plays very well through the rough edit points made by H2M (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=395744) and it is the only player in this price range (except, I hear, for the Sage HD200) that correctly does trick plays on ATSC TS files.
