Hi All.

I have a Lumagen Vision HDP that I am using to output video from my HTPC to both a JVC RS2 and a Toshiba CRT RPTV. I am having a problem with the passthru mode on the HDP. I am currently running Windows 7 build 7048, but have reproduced the issue with both Windows XP and Vista. I have also swapped out to three additional video cards (one more from ATI and two from NVidia). The machine that is now connected is a different machine from the one used to repro the problem on XP and Vista so I am confident it is not a system hardware, OS or driver issue.

The JVC RS2 is capable of displaying 1080p while the TV is only capable of 1080i.

My HTPC has an ATI X1600 Silent video card that is outputting 1920x1080 resolution at 30hz interlaced (my TV will not accept the output from the HDP if I run the PC at 60Hz for some reason, even when interlaced is selected in the HDP output). I have confirmed the output is at the proper resolution by using a PC monitor and by connecting directly from the PC to the RS2.

The issue I am having is that the Lumagen cuts off about 150 pixels from the bottom of the display when in passthru mode. When I try to adjust the input and make changes to the Bottom setting, it refuses to let me since it is in passthru, but I can see that the bottom of the display is cut off in that mode.

In order to get the full image to output to the TV and the Projector, I am forced to use Lumagen scaling and the resulting image is much lower quality that the passthru image.

I have updated the HDP to the latest firmware and reset to factory defaults. I have verified that Zoom is not being used (disabled in passthru) and that the aspect ratio is not an issue (also disabled in passthru).

I am not sure what else to look at.

Any ideas? I live near the Lumagen offices and had an offer from one of their techs to come by my house and look at the issue but I want to make sure I have exhausted every option before doing that.

I would appreciate any thoughts any of you have.

Thanks,

Shan

Try adjusting the TOPL - you can't scale in passthrough, but you can shift the image around.

I have tried that but the challenge I am having is that the image is larger than the screen. The top left corner is where it should be. The bottom right is off the screen. If I use TOPL to move the image up and to the left, I lose the top and left portions of the image. I cannot seem to get the image to fit the screen. I can see the picture cut off when I use the BTMR adjustment.

Thanks,

Shan

Just to confirm that when you connect your HTPC directly to your RS1 does it all 'fit' on the screen? On my HTPC (ATI 3850 graphics card) within the CCC there is a setting to remove overscan, without this set to '0' I don't get 1:1 pixel mapping. I think the default (like whe you update the driver) is 5% overscan.

I have the similar HDQ and feed both my 1080p TV and my HD350 from my HTPC with the HDQ in passthrough mode without the issues you're having. I feed my HDQ at 1080/50i as I'm in the UK so I watch BBC or ITV HD broadcasts and the HDQ outputs this as 1080/50p to my TV and/or PJ. I could try it at 1080/30i just to see if I can get 1:1 mapping and I'll report back later.

EDIT: Just tried it feeding the HDQ at 1080/30i with the HDQ outputing at 1080/60p and 1080/60i and it seems fine.....very slight 'shimmer' on desktop text, which I think is more down to deinterlacing (different settings changed this effect, VIDPP seemed the best) , but it was definately 1:1 pixel mapped.

I will double check tonight, but I am 99.9% sure that I get a full 1:1 map with no overscan when connected directly to the projector. I cannot remember if I tried that before or after I moved to Win7 so I will double check.
