The one I bought seems too large to fit in either my HDTV (Vizio VW32L) or Receiver (Onkyo TX-Sr304)? It will not stay in either device.
Is there a trick to inserting this type of cable? I tried all orientations, no luck.
Remove the protective cap from the ends of the cable.
We have all done it.

There is an S/PDIF mini plug. You may have that. Here is a picture (http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-Velocity-Toslink-27017/dp/B0002JFN1K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1238069485&sr=1-1)of a standard to mini (side by side).

Also make sure the connection at the device isn't some hinged optical input. These are quite cheap and prone to breakage. I have seen these be more resistant to seating the cable properly.
doh. I will try with the cap removed.
