Hi ! I'm an ethusiast user of WDTV. I learned from a friend of a unofficial firmware for WDTV.

I'm looking for a web-tutorial step-by-step telling me where to download what and what to save where and what to do when, etc... to use ext3-firmware on my wdtv

i 'm here, please, before i'll move, tell me if all this step are right:

Download latest wdtv firmware from here: http://root.unknown.sk/wdtv/wiki/doku.php?id=ext3-boot-releases
Unzip and copy the content it to a blank (empty) usb pen, to the root
Download latest optware from here: http://b-rad.cc/optware-for-wdtv
Unzip and copy the content to the same pen, into the root
Turn Off WDTV
Plugin usb Pen
Turn On WDTV
Flash new firmware using built-in update system
Reboot with usb pen inserted
Enjoy

questions about ext3.bot:

I read here (http://root.unknown.sk/wdtv/wiki/doku.php?id=wdtv_firmware_hacks) that:
"Booting from USBkey providing read write user space for more application"
So i'm asking to me: must i flash firmware or is there a way to simply boot from pen and automagically run ext3 firmware from here? Or it's right what i wrote before (flash and reboot) ?

questions about web interface
: The readme into web interface package from here (http://root.unknown.sk/wdtv/wiki/doku.php?id=wdtv_web_interface) tell to delete lightappd from official ext3-boot firmware. But how to do that? In the ext3-boot zip file there is NO a lightappd file !!!
: so: where to copy the webinterface.app.bin file? and how to use it from WDTV?

step-by-step guide to use ext3-boot-firmware:

1. download ext3-boot-firmware
2. unzip it to your usb key with fat file system
3. insert your usb key to wdtv and turn it on
4. select "update firmware" from wdtv menu
5. PROFIT!!!!

ext3-boot-firmware is ALWAYS running from that USB stick. If you take out your USB stick, wdtv will NOT WORK!!!

Question..

I've installed wdlxtv just fine, flashed and all.

But I want to run optware, torrent client etc on it and it does not mount because my drive is NTFS (read only seems..).

Will just formatting to ext3 work? Will it boot off the ext3 drive later if I switch to ext3-boot? Is it better to partition the drive as a small fat and a large ext3 for storage?

One USB port is used by the ethernet adapter, and one by my 1tb hdd. I would rather not use a hub if possible...

Thanks

I followed all the steps: a blank pen drive, copied wdtv.bin, wdtv.ver, and root.bin to the root of the drive. Off with the box, plug the pen, on with the box and "nada". It doesn't recognize the" update".
I've updated my wbtv hd gen. 1 before. Right now it has v. 1.03, but I don't know if I should downgrade it to a previous version or what.
