Hey all,
I searched the threads but didn't really find anything on my issue. I'm trying to record the audio from a DVD onto my macbook. I have a digital optical cable running from my DVD player connected to my macbook with a mini-TOS link adapter. I am running Parallels on my macbook which allows me to run Windows Software. So, I'm using Goldwave as my audio editor. I've used it for years and it works great. But, I'm having trouble getting any sound to come through. Is this because the optical output of the DVD player is "protected"? If so, is there any way around this? I've been futzing with the Audio settings both in Windows and on Goldwave. Everything looks as if it should be working, but I'm getting nothing. Any advice? Many thanks

Are you sure the min-Toslink port on the MacBook is an input? I'd guess it was output only.

mcnarus-positive it is an input. Checked the manual and called Apple. It is an input and it is digital. I called Toshiba and asked them if the digital output was protected in any way and they said no. I'm thinking it's gotta be a setting issue and I'm just not getting it right. Know anyone who does this kind of thing? Thanks for the reply.

there's actually an input and an output port... both of them function as either analog or mini-toslink...

obvious first question... the op DOES have it plugged into the correct port? we've all made that mistake before...

it's also possible that when running parallels that there's a driver issue that's keeping it from working...

have you tried going to "system preferences/sound/input" and making sure that you have "line in" selected and not "internal microphone"?
