I have a 6 oz popper and have always used the Mega-Pop packs. The result isn't as crispy and tasty as in theaters and elsewhere. Has anybody done a comparison between the packs with coconut oil vs canola or other cooking oil?

I'm sure this has been discussed before but search doesn't reveal any recent postings on the subject.

Try Country Harvest Popcorn. It's light and crispy.

Numerous threads on this.. but I really enjoy MegaPop. Always comes out good for me.

I preheat the warmer (light + heater) as well as the kettle before popping.

I usually also pop 30-60 minutes before serving and stir/mix the popped corn 2-3 times. Even after serving freshly popped corn, it's never chewy for me. Maybe you have stale/old packets?

I just tried some "Premium American" popcorn from Great Western this evening for a movie night party. Pretty good. Nice and crispy. Nearly as good as Country Harvest, yet a little cheaper. A little too salty, though.

I use 6oz packs in my 4oz machine. Works okay. Just let the steam out and let it sit on the warmer for about two hours and it's nice and crisp.
Better yet, let it sit over night. :D

Any opinions as to whether one brand of popcorn kernals is better than another? Or are they all about the same?

I like the Country Harvest Corn and the Mega Pop flavoring. If I could only figure out how to combine the two.

I agree! I like the country harvest best. Crispy and light.
If you want the Mega Pop flavor, just buy some "Flavacol" . That is the brand salt that's in Mega Pop.
I may just have to try that myself! :D
You can buy the coconut oil, Country Harvest Bulk corn and the Flavacol seperately. I am finding the packets are not as convenient when making batch after batch in my little machine.

Thanks! Good to know. Do you have a favorite online source for the bulk supplies?

Note that yes, there are differences between the different brands IMO, there are two things you can do to ensure you get the best taste regardless of brand;

1. Buy fresh. I generally don't buy more then a case at a time. Otherwise it sits to long.
2. Don't eat it the minute it is done. Let it sit a bit before eating. IMO 15 minutes at least, but longer is better.

Country Harvest is the best popcorn as far as tri-packs or dual-packs go.
I have purchased 7 brands and I find that the best taste, texture and quality of all the pre-packs. My opinion. And I stick to it! :D

I've been shopping for popcorn now that I am getting a popcorn machine but I can never find ingredient lists. are these available anywhere?

Bagged popcorns always have hydrogenated oils which we don't eat... so i'm afraid these pre-portioned packs might as well.

Hello,

We try to provide as much information as is available to us. Not all manufacturers provide nutritional information, but, those that do, we provide that information. HTH

I have been using Ellie Mae's Hulless corn lately. It's been really good and crisp, and virtually hulless. I mix the yellow and white corn together to get a marbled effect.

So far I've tried Country Harvest, Great Western Premium and Handi Pak, Mega Pop and Handi Pack and still stand by my claim that Country Harvest is best, Don;t know why, but, there's is freshest. :)
I also get the 6oz packets for my 4 oz popper.

Wow, have never heard of this before. I've got diverticulosis and I always pay for it when I eat popcorn. Wanted a machine, now I have an excuse to get one!! Ordered 4lns of the stuff, thanks Whiskey Alpha!!!

Glad to hear it. Warning though....It's not 100% hulless, you'll find one every once and while, but 99% less than a regular popcorn. I have celiac and have tried to limit my popcorn intake before, but with this stuff I can eat all I want. But my brother in-law was down over the weekend, who has Chron's disease, and commented how nice it was. Apparently, like yourself, if he eats regular corn at the local movie theater he really pays for it later.

Good luck
