Hi,

Existing setup :-

PC with 1 TB storage & Blu-ray drive

networked (Gigabit) to

Tvix 6500 w/ 1 tb hard drive and 1 tb USB drive

----

As of now, I'm ripping only the relevant .m2ts of the Blu-ray movies and playing them on the Tvix , which does a decent job but I don't want to forego the extras so I want to move onto a player that can play back Blu-ray ISO .. I am told the Dune HD Center/Dune Prime with the new firmware is capable of the same with lossless audio..

So I've been wondering how to rework the setup, I'd much rather get the Dune Prime which is much cheaper.. also i'm almost full on HD space so I need to add at least 2 TB to my storage..

what i was thinking..

get the Dune Prime w/ Gigabit ethernet

get a NAS with 4 bays -- stack up to 4 GB and connect to the PC via USB and connect it to the Dune via ethernet..

in this situation, can I connect the external 1 TB USB HDD to the NAS also? This would mean total 5 GB of storage on the NAS? Which could all then be accessed via ethernet by the Dune?

Please suggest a NAS for the purpose, lowest price possible, and any other suggestions/recommendations..

Also can't seem to find the Dune available in Stock anywhere online? Any leads?

Help is much appreciated

Thanks

since you already own a tvix, have you given a try to the BDLite firmware? (doesn't seem so from your message ;))

If you're a member at mpcclub, you'll need to be part of the blu-ray testing group: http://www.mpcclub.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=groupcp

BDLite firmware features bluray folder autodetection (best to keep exact folder structure, don't delete folders even if they contain nothing ;)), even if ISO is now supported but doesn't seem to work as good as bluray folder...
you'll get access to extras, multiple audio tracks/subtitles...

All of that will be done using dvico's own menu, which isn't such a bad thing anyway as the sigma chip 863x is a bit slow for bluray :o

[edit] not saying it will be the "end of all" solution but it might be enough so you can wait a few months for the next devices equipped with sigma chip 8642 for example.
Who knows, LG just released the BD370 bluray player that also plays MKV for 205€ here in France, some good stuff is gonna come in 2009 =)

thanks for your reply

i am a member of the MPC forum and have installed the latest beta you mentioned, haven't tested it with full blu-ray folders yet, only .m2ts files, will do the same and report back..

do you copy over everything or only the 'stream' folder?

i don't know if any changes were made between the first BDLite release and this one, but it was recommended with the first to let the bluray structure alone, not touch anything :)
As soon as you enter the BD folder where you put the BDMV and CERTIFICATE folders and all they contain, tvix will instantly load the movie
If you try playing raw m2ts, you won't get any of the BDLite benefits: 24Hz mode, audio track/subtitle changing, extras...
