Before I begin, I'd like to thank everyone for reading this thread and attempting to assist. I come from a technical background (but not so much in the vid/audio dept) so I'm taking on this as a DIY type of project (and hope that everything works out in the end ). Here is the situation:

I recently purchase a home. My room ended up being next to my parent's room (they live with me). Anyhoo, they can't stand loud noises, period. But I like listening to music and watch movies at wee hours of the night. Just my luck, the walls throughout the house are paper thin AND my future lcd tv will be right up against a wall that is near my parent's bed (unfortunately, there is no way around that since I can't put the tv anywhere else).

The only equipment I have on hand is my computer (to use to stream media into a lcd tv), a Directv receiver, and various cables. Everything else I have not bought yet since I don't know what my ultimate setup would be (logistical and hardware-wise). Preferrably, I want to remote control all equipment. Hence, I'm thinking mostly wireless on everything?

I don't have a specific budget per se (I think I just need the specs only to choose?) but I don't want to spend anywhere near $70K like a guy I know on just the audio equipment.

So where do I begin?

Wireless headphones?

Will that work for any home entertainment systems and/or the built-in speakers in the tv? Won't the subroofer still be a problem? Sorry for the stupid questions. I'm just a big audio noob.

A good pair of headphones will give you an audio experience similar to a more expensive speaker setup. If you search the forums there are some posts already describing some of the better ones. The point of the speaker setup is so everyone can experience the sound. If you go the headphone route you could then add a tactile device like a Butt-Kicker to your chair/couch to give the "feel" of low-bass.

Another option would be some serious room treatments on the wall adjoining your room to your parents.

And the ultimate solution would be buy your parents a Coach and send them far far away :)

theb8er,

70K will get you a LOT of Coach!!!

Seriously, I'd look at Sennheiser (or other quality) headphones.
