Hello,

I am trying to activate my internet radio for the first time through radiodenon.com. I think I might be having a connection problem with my setup.

I have the ethernet cable from the back of my receiver hooked up directly to my laptop which has wireless internet. I tried using the internet radio feature for the first time as it says to do before I can register on radiodenon.com, but I don't think the receiver is connecting properly. It does not give me any error messages but the receiver does not send the necessary information to vtuner (radiodenon) in order to allow me to register. I even waited after I selected the "internet radio" feature on the receiver as it appeared to be hung up but it responded after a few minutes. I read that this just means that the information is being sent from the receiver, and still no luck.

1) Am I able to hook the receiver up directly to the laptop or does it have to be hooked up directly to the router?

2) If I am able to have the receiver hooked up to the laptop, then do I have to change any of the internet options (ie. firewall settings, etc.) in order for the receiver to get a proper connection?

Thanks for your help.

Mark

You need to ensure that the laptop is setup for internet sharing over the ethernet port. Can you tune in any internet stations on the Denon? Go into Genres and select one and look at the stations. Choose one and it should start streaming after a few seconds. Radiodenon is only to set up your favorites.

I cannot tune into any radio stations on the receiver. I checked all of the options under net/usb setting (favorites, internet radio, etc.) I even tried downloading the 30 free trial of rhapsody but I could not complete the registration. Where would I check to see if the laptop is setup for internet sharing? Are there any other options I should look at or change?

Yeah, I'm confused why you're jacked into your laptop. You should have the Denon just on your network on its own via switch/router.

My setup is kind of strange... I've got my receiver in a custom built cabinet in the basement of the house and I have my modem and Linksys wireless router on the upper level of the house close to my desktop computer. I had to move the modem and router to the upper level to get the best wireless connection for the desktop computer and laptop.

It's easy for me to hook up the laptop to the Denon when I need to as I just leave an ethernet cable plugged in to the receiver.

I am mostly wanted to know if I am able to hook the receiver up directly to the laptop to get the internet connection or does it have to be hooked up directly to the router?
