I'm looking for a new sub to replace a 14 year old 8" polk sub and am leaning towards either the SVS pb10nsd or the Hsu vtf-1 (which is on sale now). Is this one of those just flip a coin choices? If any one has any opinion on these 2 choices I'd like to hear them. I have to tell you that the 8" polk puts out almost enough bass so I don't want to consider a 12". I don't want to shake the house and my wife is always on my case of turning the sound up too loud.

the PB10 is better...by how much im not perfectly sure because ive never owned the PB10 or the VTF1...my friend owns a PB10NSD and it is a great performer for the price...does it come close to what i have? (HSUVTF3HO with turbo and mbm) no way...but for the price they have it at right now it can outperform subs costing many times what it does...you will get useable extension down to about i would say 15hz or even lower in some cases in a sealed room...with the HSU i dont think youd be getting that kind of extension...but then i could be wrong...long story short, GET THE SVS...you will not regret your decision...get ready for your wife to be pissed...lol

Thanks for your input. I live in California and Hsu is located in Calif and starting April 1 our state sales tax goes up to 8.75% so their subs will be going up in price. With SVS there is no sales tax for me. I've been reading some good stuff about the pb10 on other threads.

ya i live in CA also...i live in san diego so its just a short drive for me up to the HSU factory...but the PB10 is a much better sub than the HSU that you are looking at...go for the SVS

I looked at the SVS and it's a basic powered sub without all those extra inputs and adjustment dials that some others have and I won't use. It's like my current polk except it's bigger and more powerful.

Just wondering how you KNOW the PB10 is better if you've never owned it or the VTF-1. Even hearing the friends PB10, you've never heard the VTF-1 correct?
From my reading, it seems many would argue the VTF-1 would be better in terms of musical ability (better sound quality), but at the expense of low end extension.
So depending on needs (music vs. HT, size requirements) and preferences (tight musical bass or low end HT rumble), one could argue for either being the better sub.

ill take the low end extension...as far as the OP's needs/wants that is something to consider that the HSU may be more "musical" so to speak

I have read in several threads that the Hsu subs were more for musical setups and the SVS subs were geared more for home theater. Since I'm getting all this new audio equipment for upgrading my HT I'll probably get the SVS.
