I'm moving into my new house soon and will be setting up 5.1 in a living room about 22 x 20 x 10 using some older speakers:
jbl
- northridge nd-310 fronts
- studio s center
- powerbass pb 10
and picking up most likely some polk FXi A4's for the surrounds. I'm also going to get a pioneer elite 01 to power them. I think those speakers will work fine but I'm thinking I'll want a more powerful sub.
Any thoughts? I'd like to stay under $500ish.
Thanks

One of these, or an Outlaw or a Paradigm DSP (3100 or 3200 if you can push the dealer discount).
The $400 sale price on the PB10-NSD makes it tough to beat though.

just because something is on sale doesnt mean it it will be good enough.
i doubt a 10" sub would even matter in that room unless you sit on it.

The PB10-NSD would do a good job against any <$500 12", IMHO.

The old one. I just downgraded my amp to the lt-300 and it still does jus as good if not better. Sometimes the 550 will go into protect a high sound and i just got tired of dealing wit it so i got the other amp. the lt 500 was to big to fit back in the box and i had to get an adapter to make the lt 300 fit.

but we are talking about 4400cu ft. even if it were made of gold it would be nothing for a room that size. a 10" sub in a room like that?
come on you need to tell him the truth.
i have been there, done that. i went for one $350 sub to 2, to another $1200 sub to 2. money is too tight for this game.
just trying to help, but remember i told you so.

I have my system setup in a 1,400 cubic foot living room. In the last 3 years I've had a 10" Paradigm, 10" def-tech, 8" Velodyne spl, 12" Klipsch Synergy Sub-12, and use a SVS 20-39PCi. I would recommend the Klipsch. I compared it directly with the SVS and was impressed with how close it came in performance with it. The klipsch was very good with music and scary with movies. I use the first chapters of Stars Wars 2 and 3 to test subwoofers and it wasn't easy separating the sound effects of the Klipsch from the SVS. I was able to get it on sale at a Canadian Best Buy for $300 so it should be available in the U.S. for at least 20% less. Two would be quite enough to fill a large room.
I would consider the SVS 25-31 PCi before they are all gone.
